Gratuities will kill ya! Some officers expect them , others could care less. On the other hand, some store owner/ operators, like to have officers standing by in their facilities, because their presence deters the possibility of robbery. Plus it makes the clerks feel safer in the wee hours of the night. At any rate, it is still an unethical practice,because human nature dictates that "Some One", will consider it a favor and will expect retribution at some later date! It may be some officer expecting the gratuity or some store clerk wanting help with a traffic ticket for a family member or friend. Just remember; Nothing in life is free!.
