Coastal Georgia Community College gets nod to become 4 year college!

That's great news for this area. As it stands now, CGCC, per se, can only confer associate degrees which will transfer to any senior college in the Georgia public university system. To obtain a bachelor's degree, students must either transfer to a college out of the area, or, for a limited selection of degrees, may obtain their bachelor's degree from either Armstrong Atlantic State University ( my alma mater) or Georgia Southern University, right there on the CGCC campus, via the "Brunswick Center," as it is called. There are also a limited number of masters programs available via the Brunswick Center's two co-operating universities. My guess is that the master's programs will continue to be available, as well, perhaps, as some bachelors' programs which the new, 4 year CGCC (which willl no doubt be re-named) will not immediately offer. Hopefully, there will come a day when local students need go no farther than the Camden satellite campus to complete some bachelor programs. Click on post title for link to GTU story.

  1. Valdosta State University and Brenau are both in Camden and open to anyone. They are both four year schools. It is great that CGCC is offering more programs, but the options you have listed are not the only one. While VSU is on base, if accepted as a student (which has the same requirements it would in Valdosta) you are granted base access. I have my BA from their and my husband has both his BA and MA from VSU in Camden.

  2. I'm guessing that 99% of potential college students in Camden were already aware of that, but thank you for the reminder.

Brenau is, of course, not part of the Georgia university system, but a private college. It is a good bit more expensive.

  3. Here's what is available via VSU on base.

"We have many of the same features of main campus, but on a smaller scale such as advising and assistance with financial aid.

We are proud to be here at Kings Bay to serve our military and their family members, as well as our community.

Please keep it clean and reasonably civil. "Public figures" are fair game, consistent with the "actual malice" exception. I suggest you Google both terms before you go off half-cocked.
