And now, this sad news:

I just learned moments ago that at around 7:00 PM last night, even as many were gathered at a congratulatory dinner for Sheriff-elect Tommy Gregory, former Camden County Sheriff James (Jimmy) Hall Middleton died at his home of a massive heart attack. I met him once many years ago when I was a Mutual of New York insurance agent out of Savannah covering Camden County. I'm told he was a well loved and respected sheriff. He was the sheriff immediately after Sheriff "Willie" Smith and immediately before Sheriff Bill Smith. Funeral arrangements are not yet known. 11/08: GTU coverage: http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/110808/geo_353470813.shtml

  1. Don't think it was a heart attack that got Sheriff Jimmy Middleton, but does not matter. He is gone and we will mourn for him and his family. He was one of a kind and truly loved by the people of this county as he loved them. May God Bless him and his family.

Please keep it clean and reasonably civil. "Public figures" are fair game, consistent with the "actual malice" exception. I suggest you Google both terms before you go off half-cocked.
