Camden consumers' wish list.

This morning, I had one last assignment for tonight left to print. My black ink cartridge was down to fumes. I had placed an on-line order which was supposed to arrive Friday, but it's not here YET. Fortunately, I had just enough ink left. That got me to thinking. This county is big enough now that, by dammit, we should not have to travel 50 miles north or south to buy anything especially with gas heading north of $3.00. High on my list of businesses I'd like to see come here is a big-box office supply store like Office Depot or Staples. I could go for some more restaurants, too. A steak house comes to mind. A Baskin-Robbins would be nice. A REALLY good seafood place serving ONLY locally caught, fresh seafood. Tell, me what else just bugs you by not being here? Also, what, if anything, would you NOT want to come here?

I would love to see a Jayson's Deli come here. I think a Dave & Busters would also do very well here. My son wants a BW3 to come. Is there any way to change the person that buys merchandise for Belks in St. Marys. The Belks at the Avenues is awesome.

I'm familiar (from the ads) with Dave and Buster's. Not my cup of tea, but you're probably right about it doing well. Not familiar with Jayson's Deli. Where do you know them from? I would love to have a real, honest-to-God Jewish deli, like Gottleibs used to be in Savannah, or Jax' Worman's (minus the rats.)

"BW3?" I have no clue.

Perhaps Belk's will expand when that area is remodeled soon.

Speaking of larger, Lord, I wish Angelo's was just a tad bigger.

Don't know why you would drive 50 miles to buy a printer cartridge. Camdens Office City is St Marys has a huge selection and if its one they don't have in stock it will be in the next day.

Their store is handicap accessible and since you are handicapped they might even do a home delivery. They have in the past.

In years past, when I've tried to patronize them, I found that their in stock inventory was far from "extensive." I would be amazed if they actually had all four of the ink cartridges I require in stock.

Insofar as I always would be making a trip to a major city within a day or so anyway, that was never really a problem. Besides, gas was so cheap it was not prohibitive to jump into the old 27 MPG Honda Accord and run over to Staples in Fernanadina. No more - at $3.20 and 17 MPG.

My ink was delivered yesterday, by the way, with free shipping and no doubt for less than I would have paid the local guy.

If you subscribe to the theory that it is your civic duty to shop with undercapitalized, understocked, local merchants with less purchasing power and higher mark ups, good for you. I don't.

You would love Jason Deli. They have very good Jewish sandwiches also. The only one I know of is on the southside of Jacksonville.

BW3- There are two of them in Jacksonville. They serve wings, hamburgers, chicken fingers etc. Have alot of games, pool tables and high school and college kids love to hang out there. Parents also enjoy the atmosphere they have adult beverages on one side with big screen t.v's all around.

Well, the deli sounds good, but there is no doubt in my mind that had sports bars existed in his time, Dante would surely have modeled on of his circles of Hell after one.

Who would pay to eat mediocre food surrounded by people drinking and smoking and shouting to be heard over multiple television sets turned way up and all on differnet channels, all punctuated with the crak of pool balls and the electronic squaks and beeps of video game machines? That has always mystified me.

jay, glad you got your cartridges yesterday.

If you think you got such a good deal on your cartridges call Camden Office City and ask them what their prices are. I have a Epson C88+ and the last cartridges (4) I bought were the exact same price as if I had bought them on line from Staples or Office Depot.

In no way do I subscribe to the theory that you must purchase locally however do you not think it is stupid to drive to Fernandina or Jacksonville to save $3.00 on an item while spending $10.00 for gas?

if you will clear your mind for just a momne tof your obvious political animus towards me personally and go back and read my lat comment, you will see (or should) that I was refverring to a time before I became disabled (4 years on April 6th) when A, my job took me to jax or Savannah a couple of time per week anyway, or, if I needed an office product ASAP and no trip was forthcoming, I would simply run over to Fernanadina, some 26 miles away. I also made it clear that I no longer do that.

Question: If I don't need it IMMEDIATELY, and I can usually get it in 48 to 72 hours tops, and, according to you, the local guys prices match the big boys exactly, then why in the Hell would I want to have to get dressed (when, on days off from school, I generaly lounge around in my pajamas, go throught the *7#@ aggravation of gettign in and out of my van for one trip down there - in the ass end of nowhere which is what downtown St. Marys is - find that they do not stock what I need - then come backt the next day, repeating the whole process all over. In point of fact, why would any rational able bodied person do that. If Lowes were a 500 square foot kiosk where you placed orders that yopu coluld go back and pick up the next day on a second trip, would anyone shop there. Of course not.

But then, friend, your only intention from the get go was to bust my chops as a disloyal damned outsider who does not feel obliged to support the local, indigenous merchants, right. You're done.

I think a Chuckie Cheese or Ollie Koalas (similar to Chuckie) would be great around here for all the smaller children & their parents. It would be a great place to have birthday parties & just a place for children to have fun.

I'm sure you're right, but those would just be more "circles in Hell" for an old culinary- tranquility-loving fart such as I.

Oh, by the way, I took 40 to 17 to Brunswick yesterday. Now I see where the IHOP is going up. It's a good bit farther west from the Kingsland Visitors' Center thasn I thought. That wil be a welcome edition. Should do fabulously well in that location. Now, if I coulds just get them to build another one across from the St. Marys Post Office, on the old "Teeny Weeny Grocery" site.
