A few new faces at the meeting today. The lady from CCAR, Worrying about the effect of a liquor store across from the church on children. Children are harmed by alcohol in the community but not by adultery and divorce?

Most others had positive comments and constructive ideas. Most want to go with state law for distance. All except for the Church of God of Prophecy who wants distance to keep a liquor from the vision of the church.

This will be a long process.

Thanks for the update. I meant to comment yesterday, but I got distracted. I take it that you are speaking opf Celinda Perry. I'm rather surprised that such an arch liberal turns out to have a Molly Hatchett streak in her.

Did you see ethe proposed distance schanges? Essentially, the proposed "C-2 District" ( i.e, the rest of the city outside of downtown) will see no changes. It appears that the C-1 "festival zone" would revert to the bare minimal strictures allowed by state law.

For instance, downtown, a bar must be over 100 feet from a church; every where else, 600 feet! Could someone explain the rationale for that? Politicfal cowardice not withstanding, what legitimate interest does the city have in degrading the property rights of a property owner in the propsed C-1 zone who owns property located between 600 and 100 feet of a church who wants to build or open a bar or package shop? Why should the group prejudices of a religious congregation trump the constitutional rights of an individual citizen?
