Tonight's local election results.
I just got a call from Shirley Wise a few minutes ago. All she had was the results of the absentee ballots and the results from Mary Lee Clarke. I told her that I knew she was very busy and that I would just wait and get the combined final results when she has them tonight. I will call her back tomorrow morning and get the breakdown per polling place. Hang in there. It will not be much longer.
St. Marys final results:
Mayor: Deloughy, 790; Cyphers, 749; Eskridge 499.
Post 4: Post, 876; Feller, 584; Rillo; 495.
Post 5: Morrissey, 758; Haney, 542; Williams, 428; Bennett, 235
Post 6: Howell, 1,066; Weaver, 888.
Kingsland: Mounsey, 266; Pettus, 136, Collins, 80.
Well, it is really a crying shame about Gull Weaver. She did a good job and deserved re-election. Howell may as well bring a good book to council meetings. He will be irrelevant. Look for him to be big on fighting demon rum at the direction of Pastor Jim. I knew when he was the only one to qualify against Gull that she was doomed. Between the sheep at Agape following their marching orders to the polls, Rindy's old pals at the Senior Center, and the old union buddies, Sidney was a lock from the moment he declared. The great news is that we now have 4 votes to do the right thing with the airport and a majority of council and a mayor that will be intellectually capable and have the intestinal fortitude and sufficient experience in and of the outside world to bring St. Marys, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century at last. Frankly, this day came sooner than I had dared to hope.
Oh, and did I mention that the damned Downtown Merchants finally got slapped away from the tax trough very soundly!? Allelujah!
I'm sure my little Green eco weenie friend is not a happy camper tonight. Excellent!
11/4: Special to "ACE": There were 1,058 hits here yesterday. Apparently, not everyone relies on radio or T.V. for their local election results.

Will there be a run-off for mayor in St. Marys?
No, it's by plurality, not majority. Deloughy is our new mayor, thank goodness.

Well personally im glad that Howell is in office! What does his church/pastor have to do with the price of tea in China?
Don't hold sour grudges against him, just because you couldn't beat him!
Apparently, yuo were not around or were not paying attention the first time Howell was elected,or you would know what Rev. Jim has to do with his being elected and his agenda.
"Sheep at Agape" Jay, you really don't know anything about us. You do a lot of good with your blog, no doubt about it. I have read a lot of news here that I would not get anywhere else. Plus, this is your blog and you can say what you want. But, when you make ignorant remarks like the above, well, you're credibility becomes no higher than say, the "left", the "greens", etc. Come visit us Jay. Not just once either. If not us then try Celebration, Ignite, SECC, First Baptist. But, don't stand outside our doors and judge us. You don't know us and you don't really have a clue. By the way, there are many of us who pray for your well-being, both physically and spiritually. OK, now go ahead and lay into me. That's OK, I can take it. And, my big Brother will forgive you.
Well, actually, I do. I used to watch your services on cable "religiously." I find cult dynamics fascinating. And thank you, but I've visited your church once. I went into the little office on the left hand side of the church to ask that your then assistant pastor, one bona fide nut case by the name of Avery Greenm stop tearing down hundreds of my campaign signs when I ran for city council in 1995. Not only did he not stop, he accelerated his campaign to keep an agnostic out of office. It was related to me that he was telling any and all who cared to listen that that weas his reason for doing it. Not long after that, at the urging of Rev. Jim, Sydney Howell ran on an anti-demon rum platform. He was effectively installed by the votes of your congregation, as I'm sure was a large contributing factor this time around, thoughh nolt as significant as the first time. I would fight to defend you congregations's right to beleive whatever they want and vote for whomever they want to (so long as they're not so instructed from a tax exempt pulpit.) However, it is demonstrably clear that most of your congrgation would not extend the same rights to me, a fellow American citizen. Yes, I know a lot more about y'all than you thought.
Oh, and thanks for the compliment about my blog doing some good. I'm glad you find it interesting and useful and hope that you will continue to be a regular reader.
