Commissioner Vaught?

Heard on the street: Doug Vaught is contemplating a run for Charlene Sears' seat on the Camden County Commission. Well, it certainly would not be the first time that after a lackluster performance on city council, a former, one-term, St. Marys City Councilperson warmed that commission seat. It certainly cannot be denied that Mr. Vaught would perform exceedingly well at county ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, and proclamation readings.

Has anyone heard of anyone else planning to run for District 4?

Who else would you like to see run for District 4?

He is the mc king of Camden county. Having a dog dippin'? Thug can do it. Worm diggin' ? Thug can do it. No public function to big or small for Mr TV Camden to show up in his faded hiwahyun shirt and tell some stale jokes and speak loudly to the one or two people who actually pay attention to what he says. I wonder if in another life he was a solo act at a Holiday Inn lounge somewhere in Indiana.

And for gawd sakes, even an aging Adonis should realize there comes a point in life when you really should buy some long pants and socks!

Every little town one has one: Mayberry had Otis, the Gulf coast had Forrest Gump, Georgia had Lester Maddox, and St Marys has Vaut AND his sidekick the city councilman who needs to get a haircut and quit singing.

Obviously, Bill Smith knows that as a result of her having slavishly done his bidding to her own detriment, Charlene has no chance of being re-elected.

I can't help but wonder if Smith is now backing Vaught to maintain a puppet on the commission

Aren't you considering running for District 4 County Commissioner, Jay. Or have you decided to run for City Council instead.

Given my many protestations of long standing that the Lilliputian government of St. Marys has long been and should not be owned and operated by the Downtown Merchant's Association for their nearly exclusive benefit, and given that the council members are elected at large, I would not stand a chance. Hell, who knows, they might even have me arrested for driving a power wheelchair with reckless abandon days before the election.

As to the District 4 County Commission seat, yes, I am considering it. Y'all may recall my predicting that in light of Sears obviously not standing a snowball's-chance-in-Hell of being re-elected (or ever elected again in this county), candidates will come out of the woodwork. If a candidate comes forward whom I think will do an outstanding job, that might well influence my decison on whether or not to run. Also, my employment situation (NO, I never did intend to sit on my disabled butt for the rest of my life, contrary to what some - Thuggies, most likely - would have you believe.) There is still plenty of time. Obviously, Thug Void would not dissuade my from running, but let's see who else steps forward.

Oops! Lost my train of thought in that last one. My employment situation when it comes time for qualifying could possibly influence my decision.

Another thought: While I'm sure there are many who will vote against me not only for my being a damend outsider but one who played a role in the defeat of Bill Smith. On the other hand, I might pick up a few votes for those very same reasons. The good news is that only those living in District 4 can vote for or against me. I think that the demographics of District 4 look pretty good for a "damned outsider."
That is not to say that I would not welcome all votes and represent all constituents of District 4, but it is a fact that there are still disticts which have a demographic composition such that it is damned difficult for a "damned outsider" to be elected and correspondingly easy for grossly unqualified locals to ride in on the good ol' boy vote.

Oh,by the way,if I do run, I have bad news for some of you. Remember what great fun it was to steal and destroy literally thousands of my campaign signs in 1995? If I do run, I will not be buying any.
