The purpose of this blog is to provide the author, Jay Moreno, with an outlet to comment upon items of socio-political and socio-economic import in Camden County, Georgia and to generally satisfy a daily compulsion to write.
HISTORIC WATERFRONT, ST. MARYS, GA.
This is great!!! Out of 15.2 million Kingsland received 5.8, thats AWESOME. They didn't even have to work hard to get it. It was orchestrated to offset the cost for Crescent Resources/Land Mar.
I can't really figure out how a company defaults on a bid. Jay, maybe you can explain that to us. Land Mar backs out of the bid to acquire the property in St. Marys. Dissolves the company under the Land Mar name, has the parent Company, Crescrent Resources slated to build the same "type" multi-use community in another location.
I'm hearing that this move was made because the taxpayers voted against the TAD.
Even if TAD had passed, I think that because of the downturn in the real estate market, resulting in the current mortage crisis and bailout, would have led to the same exact result anyway.
My gut feeling is that when LandMar went into the deal, they honestly thought that they could make a go of it even without the TAD, but if TAD was a possibility, they might as well go for it.

If you're right and you maybe......
Then why did LandMar FOLD and comeback with a name other than LandMar with the same owners/partners. Just curious.
If the TAD had passed as LandMar Attorney told them it would. My gut says that the development would have come to St. Marys. As it stands St. Marys is SCREWED!!! They gave away the farm on that deal. The only thing left for St. Marys to do is consolidate with the County.
They are land locked. Therefore its going to be sort of difficult to bring in business. The only way to pay for infrastructure and services is with a continual elevation of taxes.
They lost this massive development to Kingsland. Now they have the responsibility of finding a suitable developer in a downward spiraling housing market. Good luck with that.....
In what way did St. Marys "give away the farm?"
They voted to allow them to walk away with all of the taxes that would have been paid on the property. I am sure others from St. Marys remember the entire situation with the bankruptcy and taxes.
If anyone remembers about this can you please provide input. I can't remember exactly what the logic was. I believe Deborah Hase was the Mayor during all of this. But I remember emphatically that it was not in the best interest of the taxpayers of St. Marys.

Uh.. how exactly did St.Marys get "screwed?"
In what way did St. Marys "give away the farm?"
And why, exactly, does Landmar going all but belly up as a company necessitate the immediate consolidation of all of the governments in Camden County?
I'm sure it all makes some sort of sense to you, but, so far, you've not communicated that rationale to me.

I'm afraid that your memory of the events is a bit confused, but I'll let someone else tell you. Sandy, are you following this?
