St. Marys contemplates 4-day work week. Question: which 4 days?
http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/111308/geo_355292187.shtml
If I were an employee, I would naturally prefer either Friday or Monday off. However, that would not be the ideal situation for the other 99.9% of us who are the paying beneficiaries of the city's service delivery strategy. It would seem to me that the ideal week day off would be Wednesdays.
What do you think? See the poll in the upper right hand corner.

how can going to a 4 day work week save money?
here is the way i see it.
if you get employees to give you an honest 40 hours of work,i dont care how you do the math its 40 hours of honest work. but if they ride around 20 both ways it cost the same
i think the fire chief still has an asst. f horton is chief then do all the work pesonal and budget.
why pay a chief that cant handle the firefighters
The only way that is obvious to me is that if employees who drive city vehicles, burning city gas, to and from work (take home vehicles)only have to commute 4 days vice 5, it should save 20% on gas / wear & tear / maintenance (assuming they actually leave them parked on that 5th day.)
Why not look at eliminating 50% of the people hire for "future growth" instead of making them part-time. This 4 day work week concept saves $100,000.00, WOW. If you actually terminated 50% of unneccessary employees your saving would be much greater. Most people know the most savings come from benefits and cost associated with having employees. Reducing to part-time and retaining full-time benefits is not the answer.
But St. Marys never had the image of smart government did they....
Well, with eight votes cast so far, it looks like I have at least four valued readers who are city employees - 2 votes for Friday and 2 for Monday! ;-)
lets say they go to a 4 day week
most holidays taken off are mondays what happens then closed 3 days in a row or do we pay them thriple time for working that day.
just lean out the fat and go for productivity.
everyone here has seen it 2 people working 4 watching them work.
if they need that much supervision hire better people.
