There goes the neighborhood!
Well, I got to go inside of my new house for the first time today. It's not quite finished, but probably 95%. It will easily be ready for closing on the 1st of December.
I love the room and convenience in the master bath and kitchen, both of which I re-designed from the original plans.
Well, it seems that some of the neighbors are in a snit over my choice of colors. Let me see if I can find some colors that are close.
The bulk of the exterior is a blue not too far from this blue. The exterior is Hardie board.
The trim is about the color of eggnog. The name of the color is actually "vanilla bean." Think French vanilla ice cream. It looks sort of like this.
Not yet painted, the garage door, the front door, and the front shutters will be a sort of cranberry to raspberry color, similar to this.
I chose those co-ordinated colors myself from the Eddie Bauer collection of some brand-or-other down at Lowe's. Apparently, all the other homeowners in the S/D chose from a palette offered by the builder. It consisted of rather pale pastels. So, I guess some of them are pissed because they were not given the option I requested and got. I'm thinking that the market being what it is and my being able to pay cash (WC settlement) had something to do with it.
Oh, well. They'll get over it. Perhaps I've started a trend!
I guess I'll have to finally break down and buy a digital camera so I can show y'all a picture when it's done. Or, you could just cruise through Victoria Landing. Trust me - it's the only blue house in the place.
I like it. I guess the blue fence going up the week after closing will really send them over the edge.

The colors sound good to me. I would not care what anyone else thought, its your house and you are paying for it. I'm sure you are not really bothered about what anyone else thinks anyway.

The colors sound nice to me. I guess I will have to do a driveby in order to give a real opinion. Most men have a problem matching colors but how could you go wrong using Eddie Bauer colors? Do you have a HO Association with a committee that has to approve any exterior modifications such as paint colors? If not, I would not worry about it...as long as you are happy, that is what counts. After your new neighbors see what a charming personality you have, they will forget about what color your house is painted. Congratulations on your new home!
It just shows your true polictical feelings. Blue is now the color of choice. God Bless America.
Hey Jay
I drove by your humble home this morning. I will agree that you will have no trouble finding it.
BOB-BOB
Nope, no H.O. association, but developer, Oscar Wells, keeps a pretty tight rein on what you can and can't do. He persanlly signed off on my color choice.
I had thought of trying to acquire a family of concrete Smurf's to put on the lawn, but such decorations are specifically verbotten in the covenants.
RE: The blue and my political feelings: as Ralph Cramden would say, "Hardee har har!"
Yeah, Bob, I understand it is universally referred to in the neighborhood as "the blue house."
I hope the painter will finally get he third color on there this week.
Jay, Congrats on your house being almost complete. As far as the neighbors I would not worry about what they have to say. They will get over it! The colors sound great to me and fit your personality. We will have to have a house warming party!!!!

What was your first clue? ;-)
I have followed your writings for over a year now, on the forum and this blog and I don't think that you let anything anyone says really bother you, or if you do you never let it show. It took me a long time to learn that some things are just not worth worrying over. The colors are great.
My answer to your question.
