4:10 PM: What I'm hearing from sources is that of late, a couple of the newer councilmen have been pretty well bucking the mayor on some of his objectives. After about 40 years as mayor, he got tired of it and called it quits. Given that I don't really follow Woodbine politics, I can't say who those councilmen might be or what issues are involved. Anyone? That is to say anyone who ACTUALLY knows.

Seems rather odd. Any insight on your part Jay?? The plea deals in the Cisco Case?? I am kind of caught off guard by this development.

I'm going to move this comment for you to the correct post. I'll answer there.
2 new councilman have been bucking the system by trying to lower the mileage rate and reduce the budget much to Burfords chagrin. He grew tired of having to answer to why he spent this and that and wasted this and that and quit. Seems like a cowards way out but thats just me.
What are the names of these two councilmen? Are you one of them?
Could you give us some specific examples of how "he spent this and that and wasted this"?
Jay, wasting money is an understatement. Can you say $1.6 million for ditches, or how about our $250,000 master plan that we still do not have that was started in 2004. These are his projects. We have been schills for this regime for to long. I am glad our town is rid of this part and maybe soon enough we can find a competent city manager and progress forward. I say good riddance and hope that a competent person runs this time.
The 2 councilman are Matt Jordan and Scott Henning. Hank Higginbotham is slated to be sworn in January 4th. I feel that he saw that he had lost the majority and is getting while the getting is good.
By "ditches," I assume you mean some sort of drainage project(s). I really don't know enough to comment one way or the other so I'll just stay tuned.
You should see connection with Sea Island and the Master Plan fiasco. Short version: Sea Island says we need a Master Plan, we say OK. We get RFQs back. 5 responses, 4 firms had bids less than $80,000, one had a bid of $250,000. Sea Island says they would pay for a portion if we would use their firm ($250,000). We agree (Baa baa). We then illeagally use SPLOST money to pay for said plan. All approved and signed off for by one and only Burford Clark. We will miss you Burford. Now if council will see fit to get a competent City Manager then we might actually get out of the stale 80s
