You only think you know the Navy's position!
The prologue to this post is to be found at:

Be sure to read all of the comments.
Now, in light of all that, read this e-mail of yesterday from Councilwoman Deborah Hase. Note that I am only publishing half of her e-mail, at her request, because the info in the second half needs to be embargoed until after the event described therin actually takes place. I will give it to y'all when I can.

Subject: FYI:airport
Jay, just read your blog about airport: FYI: the Navy HAS put it in writing. A letter was sent to the Mayor last year from Com.(Captain) Wes Stevens (the base CO) and he said that the Navy wants the airport moved. People keep saying that it hasn’t been put in writing, but it has. ( I will find it and forward to you). Also, The Asst. Sec of the Navy, three admirals, three base commanders, the Director of Naval Installations, the Director of the Governor’s Military Affairs Commission (for the state of Ga),and Rep. Jack Kingston, just to mention a few, have said it needs to be moved; and they said it to large groups of people many times. Several of those times I was present.

If the navy wants the airport moved they can say so and pay to move it.
Jay,
This email gives Ms. Hase' position, not that of the Navy. Of course if she can produce a copy of official correspondence from any of those she named stating that it has been found that the airport is a threat to the base and therefore, the Navy is requiring us to move the airport to alleviate this threat, we would be most interesting in reading such.
If the information in the email is not to be released why would a council member act so irresponsibly and tell you or anyone else. It sounds like someone is overstepping their bounds.
Patience - the letters will be forthcoming. Moreover, when I reveal what is going on, it will be apparent why it is better left not generally known for now.
I forwarded this information to Jack Kingstons office because the last time I talked to him he did'nt want anything to do with this issue
I wonder what a records request to the city concerning an email from Council Member Hase to you discussing city business would turn up. She might do well to remember that any correspondence by a city official concerning city business is subject to public review.
Oh, please, Bubba, knock yourself out! In fact, now that you've threatened it, if you don't do it you are a total wuss with no credibility whatsoever. Why wait - e-mail your request to Bill Shanahan TODAY, asshole.
Jay - you already have the letter from the commanding officer to the mayor posted on one of your older posts. The letter from the base was in response a letter from Eskridge asking the pointed question - do you support the relocation effort and if you do will the Navy pay for it?
As far as Kingston is concerned he has been onboard since 2003 when the subject was first brought up. The congressman attended one of the very first meetings and said he was in favor of the move (google Times-Union, St Marys Airport).
The airport is a safety issue - not a security issue. One plane crash could disrupt operations and the Navy is not willing to risk that and there have been two crashes one in April 2007 and again in April 2008. Ms. Jump Camden was the first one on Douglas Drive and second one was right on Sputr 40 in front of Franklin Gate and the Bancroft exhibit.
BTW Sea Island did not come into play until well after the three sites were identified and their motivation, I believe at first, was a nice tax write-off, but later came a zoning request to place a PUD (planned urban development) that included an airport (Coastal Regional Development). My belief is if this all falls through Sea Island is in the position to build an airport at a future date regardless what the liliputians decide.
What was the CO's answer to the question. "do you support the relocation effort and if you do will the Navy pay for it?"
Letter stating the position of King Bay and the airport.

Thanks.
So, I take it the CO's answer was, "Yes, we support the relocation but no, we will not help pay for it." Is that about it?
