The purpose of this blog is to provide the author, Jay Moreno, with an outlet to comment upon items of socio-political and socio-economic import in Camden County, Georgia and to generally satisfy a daily compulsion to write.
HISTORIC WATERFRONT, ST. MARYS, GA.
Two things that may be of interest to you. One, this has been proposed numerous times to Camden County over the past 5 years and has been rejected as recent as last month. This past time Sheriff Gregory let the group know that under no circumstances would he go along with this idea. Charlene Sears informed the group that she would never vote to finance anything, whatever the hell that means. Secondly, Mr Freyer owns a considerable amount of land in North Camden. I have heard rumors that is where the jail is proposed. I should know more tomorrow after my meeting with Steve Howard.
Heres a thought. Would it not be prudent for Camden and Gynn to talk about building or leasing a jail together? Nahh that would make to much sense.
Come to think of it, I remember reading not too long ago about two counties in Georgia ( I can't remember which ones) that are building pone jail to be used by both counties.
What I like about the proposal in Glynn County is that the guy is not talking anbout running the jail with his own staff but simply building the jail then leasing it on a lease purchase basis to the county. The county will staff it. I wonder if Tommy would have any objection to that? Charlene will be gone at the end of this year, thankfully.
