Former top dogs bail from LandMar, start new firm.

http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/062508/bus_294868061.shtml So, does anyone actually KNOW, for a fact, what the current plans for the old mill site are?

Jay,
This is just my opinion, Land Mar will probably continue to clean the site up and at least prep for construction. With the downturn and the mortgage industry in the state they are in I seriously doubt LM will proceed with great guns. The worst thing I see happening is the project going on hold until the real estate market gets better. They have too much vested in the property and in Camden to "abandon" or resell the property. The other LM property - Winding River is still going strong and new construction is still taking place.

You're right Winding River is receiving increased attention due to the fact that northerners don't want to live on the "plantation." Landmar bailed due to all of the negative attentive drawn to them via Charlie Smith and Ed Blakely. Roger is a straight up guy and a savy businessman. I anticipate they will do extremely well. Landmar was sold to Crescent Resources the same developer thats doing the massive development in Kingsland.

Tearing the mill down was the primary goal of the realtors of Camdne County and especially of St. Marys. That was accomplished through the court system, of which we all should know how that works. If Landmar is truly environmently sound and thinking of our future, they would never have allowed the dumping of the white liquor, green liquor, black liquor, hypo, tall oil, etc. to be dumped in the drains to the effluent ponds and dumped on the grounds. Rain storm after storm allows the contaminants to leach to the ground waters. Yet the surface soils, or rubble as it is now, look better after each storm. I guess it is about time for the "created for Landmar" salvage company to go belly up and leave the dump site for someone to eventually clean up. After all Landmar has not, and probably will not, pay the total amount for the investment they purchased. However, remember the plant has been destroyed and this was the primary goal. By the way, do you know what the commissioner candidates were saying last night. "We need to attract some industry to the area". Hell, they had a plant that could have been: restarted, run a portions of, ran a different product, used the water and effluent permits to build some other industry, etc. There was interest there, but NO ELECTED OFFICIAL stepped forward to aid and assist the investor. So let's build a McDonalds or a new convience store in St. Marys for some new jobs. But don't go over the railroad tracks. They want only bed and breakfast units downtown. Wonder when the tracks will be taken up, they make my car rattle.
