The T&G editorial nailed it a few weeks ago before the election. This whole airport issue smells to high heaven. The question is who's going to stop the special interests that are paying off (under the table) the group pushing this. There is dissention in the ranks of the "Move the Airport" group. It spilled over into the parking lot at a recent gathering. There were raised voices and finger pointing. Sooner or later this thing is going to erupt. Some of these elected officials will be in deep jeopardy when election time rolls around for them. Just look what happened to Bill Smith. When enough voters learned the truth, he was turned out of office.

What I can't believe is that when the Navy was willing to pay to move the airport many years ago the people said no we don't want to move it. Now that it looks like it will be moved and maybe funded by private/corporate donations everyone is in an uproar. As long as local tax money isn't spent then why worry about it. St. Mary's needs to wake up and get some kind of industry in there to help support the economy. Then maybe if the companies will pay their fair share of property taxes everyone in the county could benefit.

After reading the article I immediately thought back to when there were two different groups rallying for political power. One was Destination Camden, I can't remember the name of the other. But I believe the both dissolved and consolidated into Camden Partnership.

Hase and the newly formed Camden Partnership were going to take this venture forward and benefits in many ways. The other common denominator in all of this is Charlie Smith.

The wall they ran into: In order to put your organization in the receiving line you had to be a government entity able to tax. Then Hase lost the election and everything fell apart.

In order for this to be done correctly and in a unbias manner they should get another municipality to become the sponsor. Based on the area being referred to on the other site, it seems logical that whichever municipality is capable of providing water/sewer to the area should also serve as the sponsor.

Eventually I believe the airport will become a regional airport for all of Camden County. If they are able to come up with the donors this maybe a good things. But the cord must be cut from DeLoughy, Hase, Smith and Camden Partnership.
