Trusteegate plumber, Scott Huckabee, refutes BTW's claim he volunteered: says he was an "indentured servant."

This from a deep cover CCSO mole.... You may recall that at the candidates' forum, when asked about hauling inmates to his wife's house in Charleston, Smith said that it was one inmate and he had "volunteered." There were, in fact, two inmates, Scott Huckabee, a plumber, and inmate Rodney Mullis, an electrician. Additionally, an old mill buddy and electrician, Ray Dyal, brother of old mill buddy and instant Captain, Roger Dyal, were hauled all the way up there by Smith in his county car on county gas. They worked all day tearing out the wife's kitchen cabinets and rewirng the kitchen. How that helps Blake is not at all clear - not that it matters. At the end of the day, BTW did not feel like driving back to Camden so he had his faithful hog-slopper, Capt. Dyal, drive up to Charleston - on the clock - in a county car on county gas - to bring them back. Huckabee has testified to the GBI that he was summarily informed by Smith that he was to be hauled up to Charleston. At that point, Huckabee, not all that enthusiastic about the trip, began to question Smith as to where and why. Smith icily informed him, in no uncertain terms, that so long as he was in his custody, he should think of himself as "an indentured servant." Now, you might wonder, why would an inmate serving time in the Camden County jail not like the chance for an outing to Charleston to the sheriff's wife's house. Well, it turns out that as a result of plumbing work he had done at the Ponderosa and elsewhere for Smith, he was a "special" trustee. That means that he wore civilian clothes and was free to come and go from the jail - unescorted - as he wished during the day, so long as he was back inside at lights out. Now, get a load of this idiocy from the world's third largest boob. When Smith got word that Huckabee had testified to the GBI, he called his home. (Not sure if he was through with his sentence, or just on a day pass.) Not finding him home, Smith left a terse message on his answering machine telling Huckabee that he knew what he had told at the GBI and that he should get in touch with him immediately. Instead, Huckabee, in a most un-"indentured" manner, promptly turned over the tape to the GBI. Tommy, is there a screening test for being "eat-up-with-the dumbass?"

I know Scott and he was permitted to come and go as he pleased. That was because of his work at the S.C. residence and also for extensive work on the Ponderosa. Scott has advised me that he did give all this information to the G.B.I. Also, it is absolutely correct that Scott advised the G.B.I. about the Smith message. It was after Scott had been released from Jail and was living out of town. You are also correct about the indentured servant part. Scott said that is exactly what Smith told him he was when he questioned about work he was doing. Also, Scott told me that he gave information on other inmates doing work on Smith's private property. Good job Jay.

I know Scott also. I am in no way defending the Boob (Smith) but Scott got something out of his information to the FBI. Scott is a drunk and drug addict that needed money. Scott stole and pawned a bunch of equipment from the plumbing company he had been working for but was fired from because of his drinking on the job and he was looking at going back to jail when he was approached about talking to the FBI. He saved his A$$ by talking to them. He used to brag about how he had it made in Camden Co. because of Uncle Bill. He enjoyed being able to come and go as he pleased. Indentured servant, NOT!

Oh, Lawdy! Ol'Bill Smith - with a heart as big as all outdoors - has been turned upon by an ungrateful ex-trustee! The pathos is almost unbearable.
