Craig Brack vs. Chairman Preston Rhodes?

Anonymous said... Former JDA man Craig Brack has signed on to run against Preston Rhodes for the District 1 commissioners seat. Your thoughts? April 25, 2008 2:12 PM Well, when that comment came in on the last post, I was fairly certain that I remembered who Craig Brack was, but just to be sure, I searched his name on the T&G site. I was right. http://www.tribune-georgian.com/articles/2006/02/17/news/top_stories/1topstory2.17.txt My recollection is that he was put into a rather impossible position when the Terrible Troika -one of whom was Rhodes himself - tasked the JDA with putting in a massive, multi-million dollar water and sewer system for developers in the North End. I seem to remember that Brack eventually resigned in disgust over the whole affair, but I could be wrong. Anyone? Seems I remember reading that Mr. Brack is a highly experienced, practising civil engineer. Given that the first non-felonious high school grad in the phone book should be able to defeat Mr. Rhodes, Mr. Brack, at first blush, seems like a good candidate. Caveat: That is, assuming that he is not a BTW plant, an inveterate good ol' boy, or a Trojan horse from the developers. Anyone? 4/26 @ 1730 HRS: Googling Brack: This from the minutes of the Glynn County BOC meeting of September 6th, 1990. "Requested Traffic Improvements at Highway 341/Fourth Street Intersection. Chairman McVeigh announced that Department of Transportation District Attorney Craig Brack had written the Commission a letter indicating that the DOT would participate in the cost of improving the intersection of Highway 17 and Fourth Street. He made a motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Highsmith, authorizing the Chairman to forward a letter to Mr. Brack asking Mr. Brack to participate in upgrading the Highway 341/Fourth Street Intersection in front of Selden Park." Is this the same Craig Brack? Is he an attorney AND a civil engineer? Mr. Brack, if you would like to e-mail me an opening campaign statement (jaymor@tds.net), I'll be happy to post it unedited and verbatim here for you. That offer is good for all declared candidates, by the way. Mr. brack is a member of the $500 per family/per year Hickory Bluff Marina in north Camden County. The members and Officers of Hickory Bluff Marina OFFICERS President: Tilly Williams Vice President: Ed Herrington Secretary: Kaye Williams Treasurer: Vicky Raleigh MEMBERS: Larry Adams, Scott Adcock, Tony Aliotta, Tullis Allen, AMC Marine, Skip Anderson, Ken Arnett Jr, Michael Bartchlett, Wally Bell, Randy Bellflower, Henry Berry III, Richard Blythe, Sr, David Boczar, James F Bolden, Craig Brack, et al http://www.hickorybluffmarina.com/members.html In 2007, Brack was on the Board of Directors of the Camden Partnership, Inc. May still be. Anyone? http://www.thecamdenpartnership.org/Newsletters/current_newsletter.pdf Member, along with Bob Noble, of "ADAG." http://adagonline.org/work_groups.html This from a 1990 GLynnn County BOC meeting's minutes: "Department of Transportation Report on Local Road Projects. Department of Transportation District Engineer Craig Brack, assisted by Gene Vincent and Ricky McCoy, reported on various traffic improvements in Glynn County. Mr. Brack complemented Glynn County Administrative and Public Works Staff for working with the DOT better than any other County in the District. He presented a drawing of improvements planned for the US 17/Fourth Street Intersection Improvements." Okay, so was the Craig Brack running against Preston Rhodes an engineer or an attorney or both for the Georgai DOT? Are we perhaps looking at a father/son team here, or what? Who knows for sure?

It appears to me that if this man has any sense at all he will be better than what we have. Don't know him but do remember the article you referred to from the paper. We can only hope that he will be honest and smart in his decision making.

If Mr Brack is smarter than the average turtle, he will be better than what we have. I remember the article you referred to and I am just hoping that if he runs and wins he will just be honest and not be running to benefit himself.

Your "smarter than the average turtle" remark cracks me up because Rhodes has always reminded me of a turtle, particualrly when he does this peculiar thing where he stretches his neck, opens his eyes really wide, and cranes his neck from side-to-side when he is looking to see if a particular person is in the audience at the county commission meetings.

I think we should get Jeff Brannen to run again. He is with the Camden County EMS Dept. He is a very honest and outspoken person. He ran for this position before. He would be good since he is on the inside and knows of the crap that goes on. He would have my vote.

i'll take you at your word about Mr. Brannen's qualifications, but as a matter of principle, do we really want another CURRENT COUNTY EMPLOYEE on the BOC?

The only thing worst than a non-intellect thief is a intellectual thief. But if the intellect is selected over the non-intellect the developers on the north end would indeed be very thrilled.

Before voting for Brack because Rhodes is a terrible commissioner, consider the answer to this.

Brack set-up no bid contract with the JDA that he still reaps the benefits of. Hence the whole widening of Colerain debacle.

Notwithstanding the fact that you sould have posted this on the Brack post, could you provide us with facts to back up your assertion that Mr. Brack is personally benefitting financially from the Colerain Road project? How? Is he working for Moreland, Altobelli, and Associates, or what?
