Move the St. Marys Airport?

That is once again under consideration by the St. Marys City Council. I've opened a thread on the forum associated with this blog. http://pub26.bravenet.com/forum/2178398764/show/725344 In the event that you are not that familiar with the story, here is a link to Jill Helton's coverage of the last city council meeting discussion. http://www.tribune-georgian.com/articles/2008/04/18/news/top_stories/1topstory4.16.txt Update: Latest from today's T&G: http://www.tribune-georgian.com/articles/2008/04/18/news/top_stories/1topstory4.18.txt

Charlie Smith needs to be tarred and feathered in the middle of Charlie Smith Sr Drive.

First he takes the head off the Warren Bailey estate (TDS), then he tries to persuade voters to plan for the LandMar clean-up, now he wants voters to pay 30 to 40 million dollars to create a new airport in Woodbine for Sea Island. Not to mention that he also represents the 4 billion dollar development going up near the "new" airport.

Thats a whole lot of double dipping don't you think Charlie. If you can pull this coup off you will probably be decorated by the developers.

I emailed the following letter to Mayor Eskridge and City Manager Shanahan. Hopefully you can persuade them to answer via your blog.

Mayor Eskridge and Mr. Shanahan:

I am writing to you in reference to matter of great concern to me. Who will be
responsible for building a new aiport on the 1,800 acre tract donated by Sea
Island? This decision concerns me because I do not want the least of thee to be
made responsible for providing a airport for the wealthy Sea Island. Therefore,
I feel the public needs a detailed explanation from you in reference to any
future cost that may be saddled unto the taxpayers of St. Marys.

Jill Heltons article states that the expected cost is 29 million dollars. If
Charlie Smith wants a airport for his clients, they should be made to pay for
it. This is his second attempt at cohesiveness with the government of St. Marys to
benefit his clients; TAD for LandMar. With taxpayers money. Any cost
associated with relocating the airport should be bore by the recipients. This
should not be the responsibility of the taxpayers of St. Marys.

Now I don't understand all this negative stuff. Charlie has to make a living. He was pushing the TAD deal and we were to pay for that. Now he is pushing the Sea Island bunch to have us pay for an airport. It is his job to get things done. So what if it is at the expense of others. At least he is out there working. It may be for his benefit and not ours, but he does work hard. Remember he had a tag that use to read, "Wrk4U." TAD was bad and so is this next venture. It's only our money. We don't have sufficent water and sewer, but we do have a working airport and a plan to get rid of it. Progess is sure strange. But, hey Charlie is working for us. You think?
