Seen around town ....
There was another bad accident at the intersection in front of the hospital this morning. Here's what I saw when I passed by on Kings Bay Road at 10:30 AM. The injured were either already hauled off or inside of the one ambulance that was still on scene. As usual, all police cars from St. Marys and Kingsland were there, plus a fire engine. The two wrecked vehicles were still where they had come to rest. Both were up on the grass in front of that defunct doctors office on the southwest corner of the intersection. A white Jeep Grand Cherokee was on the grass, parallel to the road, pointed south (towards Walgreens) and about 10 feet off the edge of the road. Not quite sure where most of the body damage was. The other car, I believe a late model Taurus, was on the grass headed west. It had heavy front end damage from the collision with the jeep, after which it went of the road and nose dived straight into the dirt as the landscape rose. It was pretty well totalled. What in the hell is it going to take to get protected turn signals put up at that intersection? They should have been there from day one.

Whats its going to take......
Steve Berry getting in a wreck right there. No harm intended. Just sayin he got the last one approved very quickly
That's funny: that same exact thought occurred to me as I was turning into Aunt B's today right after passing the wreck.
There's already a light there. Someone probably just shot the caution light and creamed another car.
I'm well aware that there is a light there. Apparently, you have not noticed that there are no "protected turn signals." That would be the green arrows that ell you when you may turn left without fear of encountering oncoming traffic because all of the other cars are looking at a red light while your arrow is green.
Maybe not be in such a hurry and larn how to drive?
Why do the idiots need a protected left turn? If they would follow the number one rule of driving and that is PAY ATTENTION, there would be far fewer crashes.
People thought that putting a light there would stop the wrecks, it will take people paying attention to their driving to do that not more traffic lights.
My neighbor was in a bad accident there a couple of weeks ago...she said there is a blind spot when you are turning left and a large truck is in the opposing left turn lane also...a car was hidden behind the large truck and "kaboom" they had a collision. It appears that Cookie Johnson was right again...we do need left turn arrows at that intersection. She pushed hard at city council meetings to get that light and then when it was installed complained about no turn arrows.

What an assinine response. Why would you OPPOSE ther installation of turn signals for a nominal cost if it would save even one life every 5 years and several accidents per year? Virtually all accidents at that intersection involve one of the vehicles attempting to make a left turn. Part of the problem is that the roads on either side of Kings Bay at that intersection are misaligned by several feet.
Jay...you are correct about the misalingment...that is what my neighbors said caused her accident. She was attempting to make a left turn and there were cars in the opposite direction waiting to make left turns also. Because of the misalignment...it appeared that it was safe to go but there was one more car hidden behind the cars waiting to make a left turn in the opposite direction. It was a pretty bad accident...two cars were totalled but ony minor injuries to the people involved. She stated the alignment was the cause of her accident...obviously it is a problem since there are so many accidents at that intersection.
Clearly, what they need to do is buy or get quit claim deeds for the property they would need on either side to align those two roads properly.
Isn't this a Good Ole Boy "Stan Smith Construction Company" screw up? He was paid plenty of money, he should have to fix the problem.Or everyone should sue him.
I'm not sure at what pont in thime those two roads (the one to the hospital and Winding Way) became misaligned where they intersect Kings Bay. Winding Way was dirt when I got here in 1993 and I don't believe I ever traveled it until it was paved.
Does anyone remember? Have they always been misaligned, or did that happen when Winding Way was paved? Or the hospital road, for that matter?
