Tax assessors refuse to resign!

This just in: The tax assessors are going to have a meeting at Shoneys at 11 am tomorrow. Three have already said they will not resign: Rudolph, Lucree and Noble. That leaves Norm Covert to be heard from. Anyone up for lunch at Shoney's tomorrow? Update: The following e-mail from Commissioner Sears was received at 6:45 PM. Attention Everyone: The Camden County Board of Assessors has posted notice of an Emergency Meeting. This board is held to the same Sunshine Law Standards that all public and elected boards must follow and should follow them to the letter of the law. Emergency Meeting Notice Posted on the Door of the Tax Asssessors Office this afternoon. 24 hours notice is required 24 hours in advance notice required for all meetings - Confirmed this with press no notice was given about the meeting Meeting facility should be accessible and accommodate all persons wanting to attend. We have meeting facilities all over the county. Why would they meet in a restaurant when they know so many people are watching and wanting to be involved in their meetings now? Meeting must meet the criteria of being a true emergency. What is the emergency? The notice should clearly state the emergency and it did not do so. Meeting Details: Camden County Board of Assessors Emergency Meeting Shoney's 11am We should pack the house and demand that this meeting be cancelled and that the meeting should follow the Sunshine Law. We should also file an Sunshine Law Violation on the Board. The board should not spend one dime of taxpayer money during this meeting to feed themselves. Every meeting of this public board should be open to the public and proper minutes should be taken every time they meet. Charlene Sears 912.552.3715 Mobile charlenesears@comcast.net Some very good points. Latest update at 2107 HRS: I just had a call from Jim Stein. Seems he was at some sort of local Republican Party executive committee meeting tonight. Board of Assessors member Norm Covert was there. Covert, all nigh on 400 pounds of him, attempted to get up in Jim Stein's face. Told Jim that he was not going to resign and they were meeting tomorrow to decide what their course of action would be (implying legal action, I suppose.) Now you know those morons would be better advisded to sandpaper a wildcat's ass inside of a locked phone booth than to mess with Jim Stein. Jim told him that when they had the illegal meeting, that would just be one more misdemeanor that could be cited during a legal action to remove the whole lot of them for cause. I believe Jim told me that his parting words to Covert were something on the order of "You're obviously a damned fool" Amen.

Why should they resign? Where was the outrage when everyone else property was reassessed.

Oh, I see: you feel like you've been screwed so you want to see everyone else screwed - and preferrably worse. Very mature.

Well the paper(Times Union) has a type O.
"Covert said he has no plans to resign because he has been on the job less than a year and he and other board members are working to correct problems caused by former chief tax appraiser Doug Benton."

Doug Benton was NOT THe Chief Tax Appraiser it was Doug Miles.

Now they will get Benton all stired up.

Can someone please answer me why they are asking the board to resign?? What "laws" have not been followed or borken? When another board is certified and put in place they too will have to follow the same "laws" so what exactly is going to change? And please tell me what is the difference between St. Mary's assessment increase and my assessment from 2007 when my mortgage went from $931.43 to $1354.65? Where was all the outrage then? I called numerous people on the local, state and federal levels not one person would listen, let alone fight to have the values frozen at the 2006 levels? Which might I add, the freezing to the 2006 levels would only cover people who are currently homesteaded... So once again the "dual residents", meaning both husband and wife who are both residents of Camden, have shifted the tax burden to the military familes and renters who 8 times out of 10 are also military... I find this county and state to be the worst I have lived in thus far during our military service they offer no kind of tax break or incentives to the military people who own homes... I can only hope that this issue comes to the attention of "Big Navy" and they relocate NSBKB to another location... Not only do I pay an outrages amount of property taxes I also have to fill out and return a form to the BOE for more them to recieve more money since my kids are Navy brats... Let me tell you something Impact fees were initially suppose to be paid for children who reside on FEDERAL PROPERTY, not children who live a cozy life in The Lakes so in other words the BOE is double dipping on the backs of my family... I will not be filling out the form this year... And I am sure the teachers and guidance counslers will be calling me and telling my kids that unless they bring the form back they will not get recess... I am a resident of Camden County I vote in Camden and I should be afforded the same rights as any other person in this county... St. Marys residents are finding out what the rest of us did in 2007 and they need to be afforded the same outcome as the rest of us appeal it or deal with it!!!

The only thing that bunch will understand is a swift legal kick in the buttock. They need quit talking and have to start swearing. Put their butts under oath and they will have to answer the questions. Their stupid solution is to go to Woodbine and they will answer your quetions.

Folks there have been forums for them to answer questions and you get no answers. The next trip to Woodbine needs to be to the court room.

They have worn out their usefullness and still insist on staying on the job. Now that is an example of the problem.

Be at the annex tomorrow at noon.

Excuse me, but why in the world would the federal government pay "impact fees" to civilian govenrments of communities "impacted" by nearby military bases if the "impact" was on base from more base housing?

Madam, your statement is self-evidently idiotic.

This is EXACTLY what I was referring to. I read what she wrote and I understood exactly what she meant to say. Everyone may not be as up on what term to use, but she made her point.

Why must you attack everyone.....

Nice try, pal, but I can't let you get away with it. I'm calling bullshit on you. If you fully understood it, then you should be able to explain why the impact fees are ostensibly only to cover the added expenses of educating kids who live in base housing and not those associated with dependent kids who live "in the ville." Go ahead. You have the floor.
