Sounds to me like "Buzzard," ( a large Bird) was actually in the meeting.

Buzzard Saint Marys, GA Reply » Report Abuse Judge it! #665 57 min ago Judged: 1 1 During the period designated to grant audience to the public at the last city council meeting, a citizen attempted to ask the council if there had been any officially request that the St. Marts Airport be relocated. He was told by Mayor Deloughy that this was not the proper time or place to question the council but that he could request a later meeting with the mayor. I have learned that this meeting was held on Tuesday and was attended by the questioner, Mayor Deloughy, City Manager Shanahan, and Council Member Bird. The most telling result of the meeting was the admission that "no official request" exists to move our airport. The only request to relocate is from the Camden Partnership. Think about this for a moment. Neither the Navy nor SUBASE has requested that the airport be moved. There has been no request from the State of Georgia, the FAA, officials of the pentagon, or federal elected officials. All of the stories we have been fed about the how critically important the airport relocation is to the Navy are false. It certainly appears that the relocation proponents have been callously using the security and safety of SUBASE to justify their own agenda and very possibly damaging our relationship with our biggest employer in the process. Only one question remains. Why are we still pursuing this expensive and divisive project? It is projected that the airport move will cost federal taxpayers a minimum of $40 million. The cost to St. Marys taxpayers will exceed $10 million. We cannot afford these massive expenditures, especially in these financially troubled times. Relocation proponents argue that a new airport is justified because it will spur financial growth and development. There is no doubt that a new airport in Woodbine will spur financial, residential and commercial development in Woodbine. But, conversely, there can also be no doubt that the loss of our St. Marys Airport will hamper financial, residential and commercial growth in St. Marys. It is time to remove the albatross of the airport relocation project from around the neck of our city and to turn our attention and effort to recovering from the ruins of a once growing local economy. Local residential development is stalled. Over 100 local businesses have closed their doors. Foreclosures are at an all time high. The city has massive debts and is facing an ever increasing down turn in income. We need for our leaders to stop wasting effort and money on an unnecessary and unwanted project and get back to the critical business of running our city. "The questioner" was, of course the aptly named Bob Nutter. There is no doubt in my mind that Buzzard Bird contacted him and encouragd him to insist on the meeting. Hopefully, the next council elections will solve our Buzzard problem.

Jay,

You did not note the "albatross" (a large seabird) reference.

None the less, if the "Buzzard" problem goes away as you say....seems it does not negate the fact that there seems to be no, nor was there ever, and "offical" request to move the airport.

Request or no, closing the airport and selling it to a private investor to develop to its highest and best use is still, far and away, the better choice for the city - with or without a new airport.

What planet are you on? The whole damn real estate market has all but collasped and there is no market for that type of property. There are folks who would locate at the airport but not with all this up in the air dealings about the airport. If it was to close tomorrow you would have to give it away. Or the City would deal with some belling up group like the Sea Island bunch or Cumberland Harbor. It is great to have some one so smart that they have the answer to every thing. But having some one who has the answer to every thing and solution to nothing is not worth any thing. Thanks for nothing. That you have down pat. That and proping up Hase and cohorts.

That would be a good idea.....in different times and a good economy. Look at all of the property around that is either partially developed, bankrupt, or not developed at all.

How about we focus on the old Mill property and the others being developed, finished, or financially correct before we add another huge piece of empty property to look at that "someone could develop".....you know......one day.

The economy and the real estate market wil come back - as always. At the rate things are progressing, we might have the airport property ready for market just in time.

Oh, Jay...you're just making a fool of yourself now. It’s like watching a chess player with no men left on the board screaming "I win! I win!". Give it up, please. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Stay tuned.

This whole damn airport thing is a big joke. It is a waste of time. Like the water front theatre. That went over real well. The City is and has been in the wrong direction on these foolish projects for years. Remember the City was listening to Tate Tycon or what ever his name was. The fool who had the mural on the side of the dance studio. He was a dead beat who stayed in trouble about court ordered payments. He was one of the brains behind the theatre. Those are the types the City caters to. Hase, etc. The city goverment is a haven for losers and wackos. A real nut ben. Problem is the tax payers are being screwed. But they have Moreno to praise the ship of fools.

Tate Tacon was almost certainly afflicted with bi-polar disorder. Save Prince Valiant Bird's obvious narcissism, I see no signs of mental illness in our current slate of St. Marys elected officials.

Jay this is what astonishes me about you. How can you NOT see this has always been about Camden Partnership and Deborah Hase.

They will NOT SUCCEED!!!

You continue to sport them screwing the taxpayers all the while asking taxpayers to elect you as a "possibe" Commissioner.

Why would the majority who feel this is all about a few, vote for you?

Jay Moreno said...

After I'm elected, I'll ask folks to come on here and tell why they voted for me.

By the way, here's the redacted text of an e-mail I just recieved a few minutes ago:

Jay,
I don’t live in Camden County anymore but do still own a house there and I am willing to donate to your campaign if you decide to run. My house isn’t even in your district. From what I have been reading on your blog, and the 1 or 2 conversations I have had with you on the phone, I know that you will make the right decisions.
