Very interesting...

Left click on image to enlarge. There are some interesting demographic patterns to be discerned from the T&G's precinct-by-precinct report of the voting for sheriff. Can y'all tell me what they are?

Could it have something to do with demographics? Those who did not depend on Bill for anything. Those who had their hand out and went to California?

Keep in mind that some of the precincts, especially Woodbine, are not accurate in their count as most Woodbine residents voted early. Although the numbers would probably still put Smith winning in Woodbine. People around here are old fashioned and set in their ways and a lot of them do not want change, which may explain why Woodbine has been exactly the same for the last one hundred years.

Sure can, Tarboro, N. Kingsland, Waverly are primarily the black vote, S. St. Marys, black vote and good ole boys, Browntown, good ole boys, Woodbine, black vote and Smith's hometown vote. Would that be close enough?

Could it be that the precincts that he carried are located on the circuit of churches that he "spoke" at and left a large "donation" in the offering plate ?

Sort of makes you sick on your stomach.

the demographics have changed. in a county wide race the new people win. do you agree?

All of you have valid observations, but I especially like the lasty one. It cuts right to the heart of it. This is the very first county wide election in which the "damned outsiders," who have enjoyed absolute numerical superiority for years, finally seized upon an issue so compelling that they pulled the trigger on their theretofore unrealized power at the polls. As a result,Camden politics wil never be the same, and the change will be for the better.

Were it not for Big Thug's in-your-face defiance, this singular event, which the aboriginal locals have dreaded for over two decades,, might well not have occurred for another decade. Now, there is no putting the power of the D.O.'s back in the bottle.

Precinct-by-precinct analysis clearly shows that Tommy was elected by folks in those districts in which voters were far more likely to be more intelligent, better educated, more affluent, less parochial, less xenophobic and, apparently, more moral, than those heavily aboriginal areas which consistently went with the known womanizing, amoral, sociopathic scofflaw thug, Bill Smith. Ironically, folks in those precincts are the most likely to be ostentatious church goers.

The importance of a brand new good troika on the county commission (Keene will be elected)is at least as important as a new honorable sheriff, if not more so.

I hope that one of their first priorities will be to remove the do-nothing JDA director from his overpaid sinecure and hire someone who will bring decent jobs to Camden, even if it means paying him a salary plus a commission based upon a figure equivalnet to some percentage of the first year payroll of any new business he brings in.

At any rate, if we continue to encourage newcomers, old "damned outsiders" and the decent minority among the aboriginals, to register, follow the issues and vote in every election, then the aboriginal Thuggies will surely have had their last anti-progress hurrah in Camden.

What cracks me up Jay and what some may not know is that Smith actually resides on Harrietts Bluff. He lost there to Tommy. That is the funniest thing to me. Hey Willie me thinks your neighbors are trying to tell you something. wink wink

I think maybe you are making an unfair observation. I am a native of Camden County, my family has been here for generations and so has my husband's family. I can count on one hand the number of people in my family with college educations. We attend church every Sunday, have good morals, we are hard-working, no alcoholics, no drug addicts, no womanizers or wife beaters, no aboriginals, and guess what? No Bill Smith supporters! That's right, not a single one! Every member of my immediate family voted for Gregory. I think you are a very intelligent man Mr. Moreno, but I don't appreciate being lumped into a category of "known womanizing, amoral, sociopathic scofflaw thug," and "ostentatious church goers". I am a good person and I come from a good family and I, along with my family, am ready for a change in this county. I believe that our top "lawman" should be held to a higher standard than anyone else. I only pray that Tommy Gregory lives up to my expectations.

Rather than ask you to read the whole statement again, I'll just cut to the chase and show you the part you clearly must in your haste to be offended.

I have the faith that you are, as you claim, among the minority of decent aboriginals. I'm just sorry that you did not recognize your proper category upon your first reading.

P.S.,

By your assertion that both you and your husband's families have ben in Camden for generations, you perfectly meet my somewhat hyperbolic definition of Camden aboriginals. Okay, technically, you would have to be a direct descendent of southeastern Paleolithic "Indians" to be an aboriginal, but you get my drift.
One can be a decent aboriginal, as you n doubt are.

However, I've always been puzzled (not really) as to why aboriginal politicians always make a big to do about being a a native and even better an aboriginal - Camdenian.

Having been here for ten generations gives you absolutley no more legal rights than someone who has lived here 10 minutes. Once you've crossed the one or two year residency requiremnet (depending on the office) all "damnd outsiders" are equally as qualified under the law to run for office. So, what's the big deal about having descended from aboriginals?

Perhaps I did not understand what you meant by "aboriginal". Since I don't have a college education and come from a poor family from the north end of the county I just assumed you were referring to me as uncivilized. Good thing I know how to use the internet! I looked up the word aboriginal as:
–adjective 1. of, pertaining to, or typical of aborigines: aboriginal customs.
2. original or earliest known; native; indigenous: the aboriginal people of Tahiti.
–noun

I now realize you are just calling me a "native" of Camden County. I wish you wuld knot us such big wurds you mak me fel dum. Sory!

Jay what have you heard about a recount of all votes and why would this be necessary if only the absentee ballots were questionable? As I understood it, there were only 450 absentee ballots 415 of which were for Sheriff's Race. With all other votes, Tommy had more than 415 votes over Bill Smith. This is being posted over on Topix. I figured if anyone had heard anyting you had.

While it is true that I often use what pass for "big words" in Camden County, be assured that I write exactly as I think. Were I to dummy it down, folks would never have the many opportunities I give them to learn new vocabulary. It's all part of the service - and it's free.

I have heard absolutely nothing about a recount. All I'v ehear dis what I read on TOPIX. The only place there might conceivably be a recount is in the District 1 race, and only if Brack asks for it.

The proportions of the matter of the missing absentee ballots is way too small for a recount.

And besides, the probability that there was something to it and I would not have heard of it from my courthouse sources is exceedingly small.

By the way, I'm the first and only college graduate in my family - and I did not get around to that until I was 50 years old. By that time, it was highly remedial. Did I mention that my father was an air conditioning technician and a union man? And, I'm from Savannah. So, you see, while I am a damned outsider, at least I'm not one of those rich, Yankee, retiree "damned outsiders"! ;-).

That is exactly why I came to you. I have come to trust and rely on your honest (sometimes brutal) intellect and your determination to get to the facts regardless of what journey you may encounter. Thanks for always keeping us informed.

thanks for the early heads up, Bob_Bob. Beleive it or not, I too get a daily subscription to the GTU, only it would appear that my carrier is a weekend party animal.

Some Saturdays, I just dont get a paper. Today, the paper came at 0822 HRS.

Last Saturday, I got two real estate sections and that was it.

And they wonder why subscriptions are falling off!
