The purpose of this blog is to provide the author, Jay Moreno, with an outlet to comment upon items of socio-political and socio-economic import in Camden County, Georgia and to generally satisfy a daily compulsion to write.
HISTORIC WATERFRONT, ST. MARYS, GA.
The paper is incorrect. The candidates were required to get 1000 signatures and pay the qualifying fee of $10. The $2 figure is the annual salary the county surveyor recieves.
It's a stupid position which no one wants because it means nothing. The Camden County Commissioners didn't give the last County Surveyor one penny's worth of business during his term. Gillit had to beg him to take the job. years ago some dimwitted legislator thought it would be a good idea if each county had its own surveyor obstensibly so that the perosn holding the office could get some work (probably the politician's bastard step son or something). A waste of effort, time, and taxpayer money.
Well after I have read the replies to this post, I suggest we should have Ms. Hill introduce legislation to change the law. She does know how to do that right?? Well maybe not, but I am sure someone can teach her how to do it. I mean she is our representative in Atlanta. Can she at least do one thing for us the taxpayers?
I believe that Ms. Hill could find someone to help her with some legislation to change this stupid law. Now, she may have to hunt down Sheriff Smith to get permission, but I'm sure she has his personal number.
I feel sure that she would do this if it did not interfere with the photo ops, giving money to BTW's campaign and other really stupid things she has been doing of late.
Whatever, if anything, that she is going to get done for Camden County, she better begin quickly as she is without question serving her last term as state rep.
CAn you give me one reason to get rid of the County Surveyor posistion? Other than save $2. The posistion has judicial importance in the event of land disputes. The posistion decides land isputes in the event a judge is not able to make a decision based on heard evidence.
Did anyone read the piece written by Jeff Chapman about Cecily Hill. He put her on full blast. She openly supported Carter against Chapman to get her greedy hands in the real estate development pot on Jekyll. The word circulating amongst State Reps (Jerry Keene and Roger Lane) is Hill is useless, but for some reason no one in Camden has brains enough to realize this.
I say we all write in Jay Moreno for State Representative. Your first task Jay is to re-create or abolish the JDA. Followed by finding out what can be done from Atlanta to brings industry to Camden County. Are you up for the task?
At the moment, I'm a little busy with shopping for a hosue that is (or can be remodeled to be) wheelchair friendly: finishhing a second degree; and finding suitable gainful employement.
Atlanta is a tad too far afield for me.
However, depending upon which district I end up buying in, I just may be amenable to a run for county commission next time around.

I guess we have some poor people running for office. Can't afford $2, give me a break.
Assuming Channel 4 got that story right, those were two of the nuttiest political decisions I've ever heard of.
not too smart, huh?

Cisilly Hill introduce legislation? Monkeys with typewriters could do better.

Yeah, Chapman is upset and Hill is useless. Not much coming down from Atlanta for Camden for a couple of years.

Thanks. I'm flattered, of course.
