Say, Bob, here's a novel idea...
Why not actually make an effort to bring employers to Camden County so that Camdenians will not have to commute ot Jacksonville? Just a thought.

Take the seed money from the JDA budget, preferably Nobles salary. It would be good to look into rail service to Brunswick as well. It would be great to have rail service to Jax and Brunswick. I would love to know just how many people commute both ways. Could be just as many employed in the Brunswick area as in Nassau and Duval Co.
Well, the bigest problewm I see is that whereas they already have an integrated bus and light rail system in Jax, how would commuters get to work from the train stations in Nassau County and Brunswick?
How about trai station parking lots where commuters could keep and plug in electric cars? Okay, that's an idea years ahead of it's time, but it will likely come at some point in the future.
nice thought. however, very few people rhink along those lines any more. i mentioned the same thing to an important elevted official the other day. he concored, however no one else is talking along those lines. the people in power are talking, roofs, roofs, roofs, not factories or shops.
I see in today's T&G where the Coastal Georgia Community Collge, in preparation for their transition to a four-year institution, is canvassing Camden businesses to see which ones would hire graduates of a business administration baccalaureate program.
Here's a thought. Why not make a good supply of BBA's available locally to PROSPECTICVE employers?
Don't just take a decision based upon the meager needs of existing so-so businesses in the county.
In the majority of just-barely- making it Camden businesses, a BBA holder would be more highly educated than the current owners and really superfluous.
Willis Keene is our only hope in getting the JDA to perform as a JDA should. I believe they are the only JDA that does not believe it is their responsibility to recruit jobs/businesses.
yeah, I look forward to seeing Keene, Berry, and Zell working together. Keene would clearly be the most logical spark plug for new employer recruitment, as you suggest.
"roofs, roofs, roofs..." Maybe a good rail connection would bring folks to live in the empty developments with gates who would then go to their current jobs in Jax. Just a thought..
The challenge with that rail service continuing through Camden and on to Brunswick is that the tracks now stop just north of Kingsland.
You have to understand that the impetus behind this push to have commuter rail service between Camden and Jax is to bring more weekend festival goers, primarily to benefit the St. Marys Downtown Merchants' Association. It has little to nothing to do with a desire to provide cheaper alternative transportation to commuters.
Your so right, the JDA could care less about how the working people of this county manage the gas crisis. I can see nothing that the JDA has ever done for the working people of this county. But they sure have spent tons of money playing the game.
