Airport move back on council agenda.

http://www.jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-02-21/story/airport_move_is_coming_up_again That's right, Councilman Bird - it would help Sea Island sales in the Woodbine area, AND, it would also be a huge boon to St. Marys when the old airport property was FINALLY developed to its highest and best use and put back on the tax rolls. Moreover, that developemnt would likely generate far more permanent jobs than the few needed in your personal airport business and a few others to support the few highly tax subsidized week-end flying hobbyists it caters to now.

This airport issue has gone on for years now...been debated and voted on by the citizens...it is time to get on with it before we end up with another fiasco like our Waterfront Theatre that will now never happen. They talk these things to death and spend big money on research and now what...Woodbine is building a community theatre. Of course donated land will help surrounding developers...the land our schools were built on were donated also by various developers. It is time for St. Marys to get with the program. The current airport property has not evolved in all these years...let's move on to greener pastures!

But if the airport doesn't MOVE to Woodbine, Sea Island will NOT be able to advertise a private airport for their prestigious subdivision.

This will also effect the number of students attending the new 20 million dollar school being built to accommodate the Sea Island development.

For the most part, folks who can afford to move into Sea Island developments are independently wealthy empty nesters.

There are already enough middle school students bused daily from the Harriets Bluff area and northwards to Camden Middle School and back to justify the new school.

That will also open up more slots in Camden Middle School to facilitate continued growth of the south end without need of a fourth middle school.

Get used to it: the north end is poised to boom. And yes, Wildcat fans, there WILL be a second high school some day.

my only question is who is going to pay for the move? every city council-person and the mayor himself has said that if it cost saint mars one cent they would vote no on it.
so how much money is their word worth.

Jay...you would know the answer to this:

Didn't the ballot the citizens voted on in regards to moving the airport state that there would be no expense to the tax payer of St. Marys?

Also, I agree with what Jay has said about the north end of the county is in need of another school.

I think they should wait and name the new high school Ralph Bunche High instead of naming the new middle school that name.

With regards to the airport referendum: yes, that is consistent with my recollection.

bring me up to speed. Wasn't Ralph Bunche High School the name of the pre-integration black high school in Camden County?

So, do I take it from your comment that the word is out that they plan on naming the new middle school the Ralph Bunch Middle School? Where did you get that info?

And who was Ralph Bunche?
