The purpose of this blog is to provide the author, Jay Moreno, with an outlet to comment upon items of socio-political and socio-economic import in Camden County, Georgia and to generally satisfy a daily compulsion to write.
HISTORIC WATERFRONT, ST. MARYS, GA.
Jay: The whole thing is a pie in the sky venture. No one would pay 10 million for that property. The airport can not be moved without costs to the City (which is tax payers) Camden Pardnership is a puppet for Smith and his clients. We are being stiffed. An Authority member told me the Base Commander refused to come to a meeting to discuss if the move should happen. The City is wasting a tremendous amount of time doing the bidding of Camden Partnership and not the tax payers. Come on. A St. Marys airport out of St. Marys at no cost to the tax payers? What a sham. The big question is why such a push and why be doing the bidding of Camden Partnership. There are more pressing issues that have received far less attention. What a mess. We are screwed and can't be unscrewed.
I'm not a big fan of The Camden Partnership and I'm certainly not doing their bidding. I've long since stated that I favor selling the airpirt to the highest PRIVATE bidder for development to its highest and best use whether we replace it or not. I thnk we could get along just fine without an airport. I do, infact believe that the city could sell it at a huge profit - given that the city's basis in the proerty is $1.00. Maybe not ten million right this minute, but nine would do. And that is just a drop in the bucket compare tot the tax revenue stream once it is developed. And the bonus is that we have already built - and are paying for - the water and sewer capacity for the development.
My best recollection is that that would be true if, in fact, the city insisted on a new airport. I'm not so sure the city would have to give the feds the money if they DID NOT build a new airport.
Not necessarily. What if the city sold it with the clear understanding that St. Marys wants nothing to do with a new airport, i.e., don't call it the St. Marys Airportand don't spend one red cent of St. marys tax money - as they have already vowed not to do -if someone else wants to build a new airport.

What about the statement "if the airport sells the proceeds have to go to FAA."

But the entire purpose of this fiasco is to build a new airport on Sea Island property. Therefore the City would NOT be allowed to keep the money.
