Left turn law clarified.
http://savannahnow.com/node/735432
Here's a local example I encounter almost daily. Imagine that you are traveling westbound on Colerain, approaching the intersection with Kings Bay Road. You want to turn left onto Kings Bay headed for Aunt B's or Walmart. The law requires that when you make that turn, you turn into the left hand lane of Kings Bay Road. If you want to change over to the right hand lane, the law requires you to travel a certain minimum number of yards in the left lane ( not sure, but I think it's fifty) before you change to the right. I always go about 100 yds before changing. I always do that to be sure that there are no high speed vehicles on Kings Bay in the right hand lane or impatient asses who turned left behind me, but immediately into the right hand lane unlawfully. If you are ever behind a left turning tractor-trailer in that situation, be warned that even though he may look like he is swinging into the right hand lane at first, he will be swinging back to the left. Don't try to turn inside of him into the left hand lane. Of course, if he does it right, the rear of the trailer will always block that left lane anyway.
