An interesting contrast.

Go to the GTU website and read Gordon Jackson's coverage from yesterday of Monday's St. Marys City Council meeting. Now, compare it to Ellen Robinson's coverage in today's T&G.

It is becoming increasingly clear that my friend Gordon is squarely in the camp of those opposed to the airport relocation.

I particularly appreciated the objectivity of Ellen's report vis-a-vis the T&G's editorial stance today on the same issue.

A really excellent editorial in the T&G.

But perhaps it should have noted that publisher Jill Helton and husband Mike own, store, and fly a private plane at the current airport. At least, that's what I'm told.

Jill Helton did not write the editorial. She is the publisher, not the editor. Don't try to divert the conversation with irrelevancies.

Your knowledge of the inner-workings of newspapers is sadly deficient.

And you have a wealth of such knowledge? Give us a break. You have never worked for a newspaper. Just because you read them on occasion does not make you an expert on their "inner-workings". You are suggesting that neither the publisher nor the editor of the T&G has any honesty or integrity. Actually, all you are really doing is seeking something besides the facts to justify the editor's opinion. it's the same old trick. If you can't refute the message, attack the messenger.

Based upon your idiotic and incredibly naive assertion that becuazse it was an "editorial" it was therefor written by the "editor" clearly revealsx that I could take a small calber round through both frontal lobes, live, and still have more residual knowledge of the workings of a newspaper than you do.

Jill is, and has been, a friend of mine for years. Ditto for Gordon.

Jay,

I would assume that the editorial was written by the editor, but possibly not. Since you seem to think that Ms. Helton wrote it and you are a friend of hers, why don't you drop her a friendly e-mail and ask? Then you can let us all know and the mystery will be resolved.

You would assume wrong. In responce to my question, Jill wrote:

"The Tribune & Georgian editorial is written by the editor or publisher. However, its position is typically the consensus of the editorial board, which is comprised of several staff members including members outside of the editorial department. And yes, I wrote this particular editorial."
Jill Helton.

Hopefully, that will supplement your meager knowledge of newspapers.

And just for the record, the Heltons do not own a plane kept at the airport. They own TWO planes at the airport.

Jay,

Thanks for the clarification.

You're welcome.

Jay,

I thank Ms. Helton and the editorial staff at the T&G for a very good editorial which, as is evident, I do agree with. Also, further thanks to Ms. Helton for having the courage to write the editorial even though she must know that some will point to her husband's ownership of an airplane hangared at St. Marys as biasing her judgment on the airport.

And don't forget how much of their advertising revenue is dependent upon the goodwill of the downtown crowd.
