P.S., I would appreciate it if someone who attends could fill us in on what happens. I have a 7:30PM appopintment for an echocardiogram that night. The UF/Shands satellite here does things at odd times. Damned good doctors, though.

I hope all of the County Commissioners attend the meeting in defense of the Board of Assessors. Being that they SMEARED Camden County in the news media; its the least they can do to show the inside and outside world they really aren't STUPID!
When you have County Commissioners voting unanimously on a subject that they now say was technically just for show. Thats a flat out DISGRACE!
Why are these people intent on destroying Camden County? Willis Keene needs to develop a backbone! He was right, but he allowed Steve Berry to back him down. Then the entire board caved. This should tell all what they should do about the two coming up for re-election. If you can't stand your ground against bullies when you have the law on your side, why would you desire to continue?
Please in the name of future growth, STOP THE MADNESS.......
"When you have County Commissioners voting unanimously on a subject that they now say was technically just for show. Thats a flat out DISGRACE!"
When did the county commissioners say that?
Steve Berry said it in the news article. The others appartently agreed, they voted with him.
So let me get this striaght: Steve bery said, more or less verbatim, that the vote was just for show, i.e., he did not really want the board of assseeors to resign, and the others agreed with him?
I thought he merely statd that the BOC could not force them to resign, but certainly hoped that they would, but what do I know - I was only there at the meeting when he said it.

The sentiment is WHY would the Board of Commissioners have all of this splattered on the front page of the papers asking for resignations if they knew in advance they couldn't force them to resign.
While commissioner Steve Berry said the resolution was largely ceremonial, citizens could choose to file a class action lawsuit.
As appointed officials, they cannot be removed at-will. Commissioner Steve Berry said the resolution passed during Tuesday's commissioners meeting asking for the resignations was a symbolic move to let the board know the county wants them to go.
Using words such as ceremonial and symbolic translates into FOR SHOW. Although I was not at the meeting.
Okay, let's look at the possible choices.
1. "No comment. Next on the agenda is..."
2. "We are tickled to death with the performance of the board of assessors and don't understand what all the fuss is about."
3. "Insofar as we no longer have any confidence in their ability to perform the duties of their positions, we hereby resolve to ask the 4 members of the board of assessors to resign, although we acknowledge that, by law, we can not force them too."
So, which would you have chosen?
NONE OF THE ABOVE
I would have clearly stated what was to told to the media.
The Board of Commissioners DO NOT have any recourse in the matter brought before us. I recommend that all of you who are dissatisfied with your assessments file the necessary paperwork with the assessors office. END OF STORY.
