Debunking the latest idiocy to manifest itself on TOPIX, Kingsland.

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/kingsland-ga/TGO5F0Q3A0P60R9VA Note that Mr. Feller, who surely knows better, being the consummate vote whore, coquettishly plays right along with the idiots. People, it's section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, published by the Internal Revenue Service, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, an arm of the executive branch of the federal government of the United States of America. http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/article/0,,id=96099,00.html Representative Hill is a Georgia STATE rep with absolutely no influence whatsoever over the decisions of the FEDERAL IRS. Is her being on the board a political move? Sure it is. But they did not need her help to get 501(c)(3) status - enjoyed by all legitimate churches - nor do they need her influence to keep it. Does anyone know how long ago they first starting teaching civics in this county?

How do churches get funding through these 501c3? I don't know what this is about but I don't think a elected official should serve in this capacity.

In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not PARTICIPATE IN ANY CAMPAIGN activity for or against political candidates.

Jay,

I hear Alex Blount is considering running for State Representative. He currently serves as the President of the Camden County Chamber of Commerce and City Councilman in Kingsland.

Should he be denied a fair opportunity to compete for the position of State Representative?

If not obvious to all, it is definitely obvious to me that this is unethical behavior on the part of the Church and State Representative.

Niehter churches nor any other tax exempt organizations "get funding" through qualification as a 501(c)(3)organization. That is merely the number of the section of the Internal Revenue Code that they have to comply with to be exempt from taxes.

Cicilly Hill being on the board of that church is neither illegal nor, strictly speaking, unethical (i.e., you would not get to first base with a complaint to the State Ehtics Commission.) It is what it is - real politik.

"Real Politics" and churches are unethical. Thats why is clearly states they should have no participation in campaign activity for or against candidates.

My intent was never to go to the State Ethics commission. But the church will have to decide whether they want to keep Rep. Hill or lose their tax exempt status.

The fact that you think that merely by virtue of representative Hill being on their board of directors or a deacons or whatever they call it tels me that you realy do not understand what the 501(c)(3) rules are. So long as the church does not engage in any campaign activities or suggest from the pulpit that the congregants vote forf Hill, Hill could be an active memeber and board member of every single church - black or white - in Camden and violate no laws and no ethics code.

If you think it has a foul odor you don't like, your only recouse is to vote her out. So long as the church walks the line, they are in no danger whatsoever and should not be.

If you want a potential candidate who will tell you what you wnat to hear - truth be damned - may I recommend Sanford Feller?

You are lame! When Bill Smith was doing exactly what Hill is doing your opinion about politics and churches was different. I guess your opinion is based on the person or your personal vendettas. What she is doing is no different than what he was doing.

As far as your candidacy is concern (cough, cough)

Blount for State Representative

Is there any evidence that representative Hill has used seized drug money - or any money - to fly memebers of the chucrch to California, fisrt class, and put them up in a fine hotel and wine and dine them? Is thjere any evidence that Representative Hill has donaterd any money, public or privatre to the church? The answers to both are no. Other than that, I guess her relationship with the church ois exactly like the one Bill Smith had. You, Sir or Madam, are an idiot.
