And now, this sad news:

I just learned moments ago that at around 7:00 PM last night, even as many were gathered at a congratulatory dinner for Sheriff-elect Tommy Gregory, former Camden County Sheriff James (Jimmy) Hall Middleton died at his home of a massive heart attack. I met him once many years ago when I was a Mutual of New York insurance agent out of Savannah covering Camden County. I'm told he was a well loved and respected sheriff. He was the sheriff immediately after Sheriff "Willie" Smith and immediately before Sheriff Bill Smith. Funeral arrangements are not yet known. 11/08: GTU coverage: http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/110808/geo_353470813.shtml

Don't think it was a heart attack that got Sheriff Jimmy Middleton, but does not matter. He is gone and we will mourn for him and his family. He was one of a kind and truly loved by the people of this county as he loved them. May God Bless him and his family.
