This just in.....

Kingsland Mayor Kenneth Smith asks Govenor Perdue NOT to sign property tax relief for his citizens into law!!!!! First Reader Summary A BILL to be entitled an Act to provide for a homestead exemption from City of Kingsland ad valorem taxes for municipal purposes in an amount equal to the amount by which the current year assessed value of a homestead exceeds the base year assessed value of such homestead; to provide for definitions; to specify the terms and conditions of the exemption and the procedures relating thereto; to provide for applicability; to provide for a referendum, effective dates, and automatic repeal; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. Here's the current status of the bill, which was placed on the governor's desk yesterday: http://www.broc.state.ga.us/legis/2009_10/sum/sb266.htm Mayor Smith has personally contacted the governor's office and asked that he NOT sign this bill into law. Apparently, Smith wants every last cent he can squeeze from the new digest without having to raise Kingsland's current 8 mil tax rate (vs. St. Marys' 5.) Mayor Smith's e-mail address is: mayor@kingslandgeorgia.com

Jay I know that you know this but others may not. 8 mills in Kingsland weigh differently than 5 mills in St. Marys.

Although other municipalities may implement the bill they will more than likely elevate the millage rate on the other side. They would almost be forced to in order to support their budgets. Unless they eliminate services or employees.

Again, just a thought.....

In the aggregate, yes, but not for the individual.
