Sheriff-elect Gregory, Commisssioner Berry, et al, call for Big Lame Thug run-amok to resign now.

http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/081208/geo_317673855.shtml I, for one, certainly support the call for Smith to resign. However, we all know it is not in his sociopathic, megalomaniacal nature. I would hope that Berry, Zell, and Rhodes would vote to send an official request to the governor, from the CCBOC, to remove Smith immediately. Speaking of selling off the newer patrol cars, just last week, within a ten minute span, I saw three different, brand-new, black Crown Vic CCSO patrol cars. Were those purchased by the county, rather than from the drug money? I think so. 1120 HRS; Today's T&G News Update bears listening to: http://www.tribune-georgian.com/ Addendum, 8/13 @0851 HRS. http://www.news4jax.com/news4georgia/17171186/detail.html

Doesn't matter where the new cars came from, the Sheriff can have nothing in his name, so, he cannot sell anything. Legally. All titles are in the name of the BOC including the boats. I am more concerned with the smaller things that can be removed from vehicles and from the offices. Since Berry says that the CCSO does not have any list of the properties in the SO or on the vehicles. I can't believe that they did not make it mandatory that an audit was taken of the SO equipment long before now. The crooks can take stuff out of there and the BOC cannot even prove that it was there. What was the BOC thinking? Yep, they have not been thinking for years but now they know that Billy in a vindictive crazy person on the loose and he has Easterling to help him dispose of things that can hurt the Counties pocketbook. If they don't do something right away to stop these goings on, then Tommy could take office in Jan. and not even have a desk, nor anyone else and the cars could be missing their radios. What a mess.

I, of course, did not mean to imply that the source of the funds ofr the vehicles had any bearing on the sheriff's "right" to dispose of them.

Speaking of radios, that reminds me of something I saw Sunday. Oh Hwy 40, between the NAPA store and say, Murphy Oil, there is a automotive audio shop. Sunday, there was a CCSO vehicle in their parking lot. This appeared to be perhaps one of the copunty's older EMS ambul;ances that were recently replaced with newer models. This one was white with gold CCSO decals. What is that one ostensibly used for and why was it at that shop? Anyone?

I saw the same one too Jay. If my memory strikes me, it said "Search and Rescue" on the side.

It's the search and rescue vehicle. I saw it sitting out back of the SO the other day.

Okay, Search and Rescue makes sense. However, I wonder if it was at the audio shop to have radios installed or YANKED OUT!?

One of the Sheriff dept employees should become a HERO of the Year by throwing BTW in a jail cell and lose the key until the Feds come in.
That would be justice!!!

to anonymous 8/13/08 4:39 pm.
No one said for any deputy or police officer to "arrest" the sheriff. I said "by throwing BTW in a jail cell and lose the key until the Feds come in.
That would be justice!!!" I don't read "arrest" anywhere.

This is indicative of why he lost the election to begin with.He feels that he can do whatever he wants with COUNTY property. He acts like he paid for everything out of his own pocket. He became so use to having all that cash in the bank, and now that he has spent it, he doesn't know what else to do.We really need to limit Public Office terms to Two Consecutive Terms.
All of the equipment at the S.O. belongs to the taxpayers, not Bill Smith. Who is he to sell off our equipment with out the permission of the governing authority; the county commissioners. The fact that he is trying to sell off the newer stuff as opposed to the older stuff, is further evidence of his inability to make a rational decision about the well being of the department. I'm not buying it for a minute that he is doing it to pay the bills. He is doing it because he is a sore loser and will do anything to make the transition more difficult. We need some governatorial(SP?) assistance.
