All three Camden mayors ask governor to veto November referendum on tax freeze.

http://www.jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-04-28/story/southeast_georgia_mayors_ask_governor_to_veto_tax_freeze My question is this: why is it not possible to enact legislation that would INCLUDE commercial properties in the tax freeze? The fact that it is not currently done is not a reason not to consider it. If that were done, then there would be no inequitable burden on commercial property owners (including residential landlords). Why would local pols be equally against that equitable solution as much, if not more so, than the current proposal? Well, it is fairly simple: tax increases would have to be enacted solely by on-the-record and politically "dangerous" votes to raise millage rates - not by valuation creep. Said rate increases would be inevitable to maintain current levels of service. They would require selfless political courage - a quality in rather short supply. My only objection to the current proposal is the fact that it would be inequitable in terms of its effects on commercial property owners and - by extension - renters. Were that inequity removed, I would definitely be in favor of it.

Jay, you must read the Georgia Times Union. I sent you a email before all of the came to fruition. Now everyone is in agreement with my position, even the original recipient of the email. Hooray for Camden County!!!

This is a good example of the benefits that could happen in this County if we could all get on the same page. And water down the self appointed groups that are set on furthering the personal agendas of private investors.

And your position is?

An who is the "original recipient" you refer to?

And if I wanted to go look up this e-mail, who would it ostensibly be from?

Thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, the system will not let me delete the part of your comment that you wanted to keep private. It's an all or nothoing deal so I had to delete it. Glad to hear that you agree with me. If you ever want to communicate directly with me, my e-mail is jaymor@tds.net.

If there is going to be a referendum placed on the ballot to let the people voice their opinion, why on earth should the mayors keep the people from voicing their opinion????? Now we have just a few people making decisions for the majority. Who do our elected officials represent?

A better question would be WHO does Chapman represent......
