Oh, the pain!!

Tuesday night, when I heard that county impact fees became effective January 1st, I immediately wondered why there had not been anything made of it in the press. Well, now I think I know. I haven't had time to research other area impact fees, but working from memory, I think it is safe to say that these impact fees are riduculously low - clearly a gift to local builders and "boob bait for the bubbas" - us taxpayers.

I think any growth in Florida has more to do with a lack of a State income tax than anything else. The growth down there is in spite of the high fees. Raising the fees here would slow things even more. We need more places for people to work and these increased fees certainly would not make it more attractive for potential employers.

Impact fees of tow or three times what the county presently charges would be so insignificant as to not even register on the radar screens of any businesses considering relocation to Camden.

If a homebuyer finances a $2,000 impact fee (passed on from the builder into the price of the hosue) for 30 years at 6%, the monthly payment is $11.99. If thte impact fee were raised to $4,000, the monthly payment would be $23.98. That's a differenece of $12.01 per month. Do you really think that horrified potential homebuyers will flee en masse to competing counties over $12.01 per month?
