Savannah lands another manufacturing plant; 150 jobs.

http://savannahnow.com/node/656578 Meanwhile, back in Camden, the BOC will hold a workshop this afternoon at 5:30 to discuss the future mission of the JDA; a JDA director job description; and to whom the JDA director shall henceforth report.

Jay, This was an excellent payday for Camden County.

How about having the JDA director report to the Georgia Department of Labor on Osborne Road? This is the where the rest of us would find ourselves after having been released due to failing to meet the expectations of those who provide our salary.

Psst ... the last JDA director is now deceased. He has not yet been replaced.

The County really needs to start over fresh. Now that poor Bob is gone lets take full advantage of this opportunity. Stop recycling BOARD MEMBERS!!!!

When you constantly allowed the same group to oversee anything you will have problems. They built a SPEC bldg in the late 80s or early 90s, the taxpayers paid the bond on that SPEC bldg for years. Then they reported that the building had been purchased by a plumbling company, but a moving and storage company moved in.

I said all of this to say why follow the direction of a fruitless Board. Start over from SCRATCH if the County keeps the JDA.

They have that pitful excuse of an Attorney saying what most who have a stake in the outcome would say "The JDA can't function under a governing body such as the County Manager." I'm waiting on someone to say in return if the County can't have any oversight, they the County will no longer fund your slush account. PERIOD!

I went to tonights meeetings. Unfortunately, Steve berry - the official Lone Ranger of the new BOC - was steamrolled by the ither 4 - led by Rainer (of course.)

The good ol' boys on the JDA board - the very same ones who have been such a smashing success so far - will still be in charge of the hiring, firing, compensating and directing (right! ) the new JDA director. The only concession to Berry was that Mike Fender will now pay the bills for the JDA after they submit vouchers.

I've got to be up at 0520 HRS. tomorrow, so I'm turning in. More details in a new post tomorrow.

Oh, and, believe it or not, freed of the BTW albatross, Commissioner Sears actually turned in a rather impressive performance (relatively speaking.)
