Sad that they will have to forego a raise for another year, but, if they look at the big picture, they should be very thankful that they have a job and are not faced with a possible layoff. Its much better to have a paycheck than have to try to live on unemployment compensation with no benefits.

Is this the same Tommy Gregory who campaigned on the fact that he could run the department on 6 million.

Stated he could 'easily run' the department with the current level of funding.

From what I've seen so far, Mr. Howard is well worth it - right down to the last 6 cents!

Maybe your wonderful Mr. Howard will trim some from the family and friends plan called the County payroll.

Its amazing the money these people make straight out of high school. Only criteria my daddy, daddy was an elected official. Or my cousin is over that department.

It is demonstrably true that county employment has been rife with nepotism in the past. (Did I mention that I have absolutely NO relatives who live -or ever have lived - in Camden County?)

But can you name anyone who has been hired since Mr. Howard was hired who has a sitting relative on the county commission?

I would invite your particular attention to the recent department head hires.I believe that most of them were recruited from outside of the county, based entirely upon their educational and experiential credentials.

What, exactly, is your problem with Mr. Howard? He is far and away the most experienced and competent county administrator we have ever had and worth every cent we pay him. If you think not, why not? Be specific, please.

By the way, my opinion seems to be shared by every sitting commissioner, including the chairman.

I don't have a problem with Mr. Howard. I too believe he is doing a exemplary job. But he needs to address the overage of employees at the County level.

Mr. Rainer stated at the last meeting that under no conditions would they consider eliminating employees to reduce the budget. I say that is exactly what they need to do. This is the perfect time for Mr. Howard to streamline the County payroll. If we continue to employ all of the unnecessary positions because no one wants to fire the career unnecessary employees, we definitely have a problem.

I'm sure you realize that Mr. Howard would not dare do that - or even propose it - without prior approval from the board - St. David, the Patron Saint of Good Ol' Boys, in particular.

We saw the kind of political courage the St.Marys City Council had vis-a-vis trimming their bloated staff. No reason to think that the CCBOC folks would be any more courageous (if, in fact , the county is overstaffed.)

I have read several legal interpretations that it is illegal to take money from the contingency fund to pay for budget shortfalls caused by various reasons.

Therefore, if this is indeed true, how will the County make up the necessary 1.2 million. I would suggest someone finds the courage to streamline employees! This will save a tremendous amount of money and if done properly could actually improve efficiency.

St. Marys is in terrible financial shape because of a host of bad decisions. Woodbine can't figure out how or when to spend the SPLOST money that they have ALREADY collected when the law explicitly gives guidelines. And the County is forced to eat $600,000 for a subdivision that went belly up and possibly lose tax revenue from the State.

I think its time that SOMEONE start making intelligent decisions.

Interesting. Could you tell us where we might find those legal opinions?
