Jay what do you think about this:

I know you are not on the commission anymore but you told us along time ago that you would always listen to us employees and help if you could. Well, after our promised whopping 2.5% raise was yanked recently by Mr. Howard and the recent attempt to ram through a major hike in our health insurance costs, we have had enough. The county may indeed be in financial hardship right now but if you look closely at what our “great administrator” is doing behind the scenes, the truth will shock you. This “slaying” of Judge Harrison at the last BOC meeting was a smoke screen to hide what is going on in the new “palace.”

I know that the public needs to see what the contracted price for the new commissioner building was and compare it to what the cost is actually up to now. ($400 chairs, private bathroom for Mr. Howard, push button security locks for his office, $20,000 refinishing of the commissioners table because it did not match the decor per Mr. Howard, etc). Also, the public needs to see the latest salaries for all county employees. His new “consolidated” departments now total 11, with each head making $60,000 plus! Under the old regime, there were maybe 13 departments, with maybe one head making $60,000. And people like Jay Moreno think Mr. Howard is doing a great job? Many of us employees have seen the latest county salaries listing and it shocked us to the core. We have the 2006 listing from the Tribune and have compared it to now and some of the salaries at the “palace” level are outrageous.

Also for your information, several individuals have recently requested and received the current salaries listing including an ex-commissioner who was on the BOC with you. The hourly have not gotten much/if any raise since 2006
Yet with every new title he creates for a member of his “flock”, they get a raise.

Morale is way worse now than under the previous regime. We all know that if staffcut backs become necessary they will occur at the bottom ranks so he can continue to pay for his top heavy staff. I . know if you have the time to help with this problem but if you could put a bug in maybe someones ear at the Tribune to get this information out for the public to see it would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that we must remain anonymous due to our “at-will” status.

Lest my readers be hopelessly confused, I've never held any elected position in Camden County.

The commenter has cut and pasted a comment which first appeared earleir today on Sandy Feller's blog, addressed to Sandy.

Yes, I contiune to think that Mr. Howard is doing an excellent job and I do not find $60,000 salaries for highly qualified department heads at all shocking. They sound about right for a true shift from an employer of last resort for unqualified GOB (and gals) BOC friends and kinfolk and the reasonable price of truly professionalizing county government, at long, long last.

AS to being a county employee shocked to the core by what other folks who have clearly put forth more effort to educate themselves and can therefor command higher slaaries than yours, why not take advantage of such educational opportunites as are readily availabe to you and become one of them.

If you are truly underpaid, relative to your actual value to the county, that is one thing. Class envy in a country where you are free to reach as high as you want to is something all togehter different.

Having said that,

jay, this is somethng i cant seem to understand that if you get a higher education you get more money. think of it this way a 2 people that dig ditches do the same job if employee 1 only finished high school but did the work twice as fast as #2 who has a masters. myself thinks this is same job so pay off of performance.
the same i think we should on boc get paid after term is over.

Two people are hired by NASA to calculate burn times to place a satellite in a certain precise orbit. One has a PhD in aeronatutical engeneering, the other has been a life long ditch digger with a 9th grade education.
The ditch digger does his calculations 20 times faster than the PhD, but the ditch digger's rocket always fails reach orbit. The PhD's slower calcualtion put the payload into exactly the right orbit every time.

Obviously, they both have the same title so both should be paid the same.

Granted that was a ridiculous scenario, but it was deliberately so, where as your assertion is actually a reflection of your genuine thought process and equally ridiculous.

In my Navy days as a corpsman at the Hoa Khanh Children's hopital just outside Danang, and later on independent duty in Dong Ha I've performed many hours of minor surgery, to include wound revisions and closures, open reductions of fractures, cut-downs, trachs, split-thickness skin grafts, reattached a severed ear, etc, etc. I just can't understand why no one has stepped forward to offer me a job as a neurosurgeon.
