Not to be missed!

This was a comment on a previous post. Lest anyone miss this glittering examplar of Jay-hating derangement syndrome, I thought I would bring it to your attention. Anonymous said... So Jay, you plan to run for a BOC chair right? Then I guess you will only represent the "damned outsiders"? I guess we "indigenous tribesmen" are not good enough for you on your blog. How will we ever be good enough for you to represent as a commissioner? More locals live in that district than you give credit to. And even if they arent born and raised here, many feel as if they are local from the amount of time they have devoted here. By the way Jay, what qualifications do you posses to be a commissioner? What have you managed? What have you done that will make you a good candidate besides run your mouth? Have you any experience in dealing with the masses and taking what is good for the people and not just good for you? (not from the sounds of it on this blog) Have you any experience in handling budgets and the effects of possible cuts in areas that are already struggling? Have you any experience in negotiations to reach a good middle ground that can possibly meet goals from different sides of the table? From reading your blog, most of these answers are a no from what I see. I encourage anyone to go back into your old posts and comments from this blog and read and research this would be candidate for the BOC. You will find plenty of arrogance, pomp, and no ability to think or feel for anyone but Jay. Jay is concerned about Jay, and not another soul on this planet. Jay just wants to be on the board for his namesake, not to do anything to help anyone or this community. Jay, your just a free lance journalist that cant sell an article. An old, grumpy fart that couldnt even keep a girlfriend. No wonder you resent the world and anyone in it. You turned your world into a big pile of shit, and wish to make everyone else as miserable as you. February 3, 2009 11:53 PM Psst ... You missed the opportunity to point out that I'm not nearly as pretty as the highly qualified local gal you locals wisely elected to the District 4 seat.

Well, what are your qualifications? Many people have degrees and good educations, but do not have what it takes to serve the people. It takes a lot more than a degree to be an elected official. So I think there were some good questions in this post that deserve an answer if you wish to run for the CCBOC. I read your blog daily, but from what I see about how you downgrade others I wouldnt cast a vote for you even though I agree with many of your views. You dont have a mindset for the people, like this poster pointed out.

While I disagree with the tone of the poster, he/she does ask some good quetions. Maybe you should take a moment and answer them instead of just putting the poster down. Just my opinion.

You gotta love it: this one commenter avows that he would not vote for me under any circumstances, but would none-the-less like to know my qualifications anyway!

Okay, let me answer. I forget just what all the original guy on this post asked, but it seems it was along thje lines of what prior experience I had with being an elected official and making public sector budgetary decisions. Well, I expect that all of you folks do and have follwed Camden politics for some time. That being the case, I have a few questions for you geniuses. Think of all of the elected officials in Camden - both at couty and city levels - you have ever known or known of. How many ever had experience as an elected official before the first time they were elected to anything? Answer: None. Now, how many can you think of who ever had any experience with ananlyzing and/or preparing public sector budgets before being elected for the foirst time. I can think of three:David Rainer as former school superintendent; Debra Hase as former city clerk, and city purchasing manager and then, when elected to city council, as former mayor; Chuck Trader as former finace director for city of St. Marys. That's it for me. I cant't wait to see y'alls list. Now list how many you can think pof who had no experience whatsoever. How about the incumbent in District 4. A local girl; a high school graduate; a then sales gal for cell phones, who was chosen and installed on St. Marys city council for one term by Bill Smith, et al, then chosen and installed on the county commission by Bill Smith et al. You people voted her in over Sandy Feller, a seasoned veteran observer of governmental affairs, whose every dire prediction has come to pass. Yeah, some sound "common sense" GOB judgment there, eh?

Nowm the state of Georgia explicity recognizes that given that the only requiremet to hold office in Georgia is to be of majority age and have proof of residence in the given political jurisdiction for a year on the date of taking office - with absolutely no other educational or occupational experience WHATSOEVER, all elected city and county officials are given a post-specific text book by the state of Georgia, via the Carl Vinson Institue for Governmental Affairs at the University of Georgia. They are required, moreover, to attend an orientation course. Most of the people you folks have elected in the going pon 14 years I'ved lived hjere not only never read the book before running for office, but did not know it existed. They learn on the job by reading the book and being advied by city / county personnel - if we're lucky. Some just do the bidding of them what brung 'em to the dance.

I'm a litle busy right now finishing up my final semester of college to qualify me to go back to work in something suitable for a guy who can never walk again. I know that will shock you asses who claim that by drawing Social Secuirity Disability payments (which I paid for for 40 years) and Worker's Comp benefits (to which I amn legally entitled - jsut as all of my working critics are), I've been "living off the goverment (wellfare).By the way, Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation has paid every cent of my tuition -so choke on that. Oh, And next year, when I turn sixty two, I (and any other sixty-two year old Georgian) can and will go back and get my Master of Public Administration degree (and any other masters I take fancy to)
for free. How does that grab you?

Even though I will not have time to study and learn it thoroughly from cover-to-over (unlike anyone else you folks have ever elected) even before I declare, I will go ahead and order it now. Look to see a scanned copy of the cover and table of contents in a short while.

As to my "not having a mindset for the people," what a bunch of psychobabling claptrap. Why would I give a damn about running in the first place! For the huge salary? Oh, please. Y'all must have so Camden hero politician who exemplifies(d) a "mindset for the people." Let me guess - Bill Smith!

But fear not, when elected I'll not be able to do good only for bright people. You narrow minded, xenophobic, hate-filled morons will benefit as well.

Most of the Commissioners I have known in the past 30 years were what I called "Special Interest" Commissioners. They either worked for Gilman Paper and their special interest in being a Commissioners was for the good of Gilman or they had a special interest for themselves to see how many projects they could get done that would benefit them personally or how many of their family members they could get jobs for with the County. Most of these served on the Board many times over those years. Some have been educated with no common sense and some uneducated with no sense at all.
The main thing about being a County commissioner is that some people that run for that office have some great ideas about what they can do for the good of the County, however if they do not have at least 2 other Commissioners who think the same way they do, there is nothing that can be accomplished. This County has always been run by three commissionrs who get what they want so why have five commissioners? But, when all is said and done we have to remember how they get into office. The people elect them. Unfortunately, I have seen very little change over the years, in the type people who run for office, and the people who vote. It seems that if we get a really good honest public servant he/she is always outvoted by the good old boys.

Correction on your obvious oversight of my previous post. That is based on how you treat others Jay. If you could show respect for other people you could earn my vote.

So basically you are saying you have nothing to bring to the table. You sound like your buddy Rick pointing the fingers at others when you are asked a question about yourself. Nope. No vote from me. I cant wait to watch this train wreck unfold!

My only fear about you running for office Jay:

You make too much sense. You don't seem to have a personal agenda. You have a analytical thought process. And you seem to smell rotten situations immediately.

In the realy world these would be excellent qualification in Camden County, not so much.

Thank you for actually thinking that through and replying. Your points are all very well taken. That got me to thinking about some of my "strong points" as a candidate.

1. I'm not from here. I have absolutely no relatives whatsoever who do now or have ever, lived in Camden County. My nearest relatives are in Chatham County and have no plans of moving down here.

2. I can count all of my casual friends in this county on the fingers of both hands - no toes needed. I do not now have - nor have I ever had - any really "close" friends. I have always been an autonomous, self-sufficient personality. I don't have an instinctive need to be part of the herd. I don't crave acceptance by the in crowd. There will not bew any favors handed out to G.O.B buddies.

3. I think that "compromise" is highly overrated. I believe in independently assessing the facts -not as they have been fed to me, but as I have personally found them by intellignet research of the matter at hand. At that point, having formed an opinion as to the correct course of action that is legal and in the best interests of the majority of the citizenry, I would try like hell to convince the other foir of the correctness of my position and sway them to it. In the end, if I get enough votes, my position prevails and we move on to the next issue. If not, I accept it and we move on to the next issue. I see unanimous votes as a serious red flag that the fix is in and individual commissioners are not exercising due dilligence. Having said that, if it turns out that I'm persuasive enough that two or more commissioners come to consistently vote my way, so be it. So long as they know that I will not reciprocate when they hold a wrong position.

4. Let's deal with the old "pawn of Steve Berry" canard right now. No, that has not been said of me, but surely will be used by the likes of TOPIX idiots.

The fact is that there are very few times that Berry thinks through an issue and comes out with a conclusion different from what would have concluded on the same issue given the same facts. That does not surprize me. I would be surprized if our respective IQ's are much more than 5 points apart. I have no illusions trhat Mr. bery and I will be beer drinking (or Dom Perignon?) drinking buddies any time soon. On the other hand, I know that our interaction on the commission would not degenerate into the extremely impasse that developed between him and Commissioner Feller. So , there is the potential of having two of the three you so correctly point out are needed to get anyhting doen inthe persons of me and Commissioner Berry. Now, if we could either get Commissioner Zell to come around or be replaced by a third, unabashedly activist " good guy," we could get this county launched into the 21st century at long last.

5. "Common sense" is highly overrated. High IQ and hihger education, in that order, will trump folksy, "common sense" every time. The latter is all too common; the former, all too rare - especially in Camden County politics.

Please forgive my "obvious oversight." It must have been my misinterpretation of your meaning when you ambiguously wrote "I read your blog daily, but from what I see about how you downgrade others I wouldnt cast a vote for you even though I agree with many of your views" that threw me off track.

Jay Moreno said...

Oh, and No. 6: I am not now and never will be a Bill Smith-installed puppet.

Anonymous said...

jay reading your #5 common sense is over rated i cant see where yo seem that is right. without common sense i dont care what degree you have or your I.Q. score w/o common sense you are a educated dumbass,
any day you dont think you have to compromise you are done.eveyone has to give a little to get anything done its a horse trading world.so you may be a bit closed minded thinking it will be your way or no way. thats common sense there.

Jay Moreno said...

And the fact that armed only with common sense you were intellectually incapable of discerning the true meaning of what I wrote in the context that it was written serves as a wonderfully poignant confirmation of my point that common sense is highly overrated.
