One reason for the high number of casualties at Fort Hood.

The weapon and ammunition he used were designed to give a high magazine capacity and to defeat body armor. As a result, he was able to get off 21 rounds before reloading. Moreover, many, if not nearly all, of the rounds passed completely through the first victim and struck a second victim. http://www.remtek.com/arms/fn/57/ 11/7 update: I just learned from another source that there is an optional 30 round magazine available for this weapon. So, he could have fired a total of 31 rounds from this weapon plus six from the .357 magnum pistol for a grand total of 37 rounds before having to reload.

What are you getting at dude? We should ban that gun because Its effective? The real reason for the high number of casualties is that they don't allow the soldiers to be armed on base. Arm the soldiers - the criminals will have guns anyway regardless of the law especially if they're not planning on making it out alive to be put to trial. So please clarify your stance on gun control?

Well, "dude", I keep my 12 round magazine (plus one in the chamber) ParaOrdnance P-13 .45 loaded with a mix of Corbon +P HP's and 2,240 fps Magsafe, +P SWAT loads and in condition 1. Does that answwer your question

No it doesnt - dude. In fact there are a lot of gun owners that think certain arms go overboard as far as fire power goes. And also - do you have a problem with my "arm the troops" statement? The type of gun used had nothing to do with the casualties - its all about controlling the access troops have to their guns. If only half of the soldiers carried guns then likely they wouldn't have needed a cop to put an end to this rampage.

Son, somewhere on the road to adulthood, perhaps you'll come to know the meaning of the words "over penetration." We're done, twerp.

Jay, you are way to damn funny. I love reading your stuff. Sometimes I feel you can be bullheaded, and I think you lose your temper when you should know how things are. But I have a temper also so I understand, We disagree on the Sheriff sometimes, but the more I read your stuff the more I think I would enjoy your company. You are very very bright, but sometimes we see different points of view, and you like some people who I think are full of it, but that is no reason not to like you. Have fun and your blog has come a long way. I am glad you have gotten Rick Rogers away from you, you are way to good for him.

Thank you. I crack myself up sometimes. As to my temper, I've mellowed considerably from my younger days - especially the first few post-Vietnam years.

No chance of your being a rich widow, is there?

Hell no I am a Man. And one who loves my wife. When I said enjoy your company, I meant lunch at Aunt B's. I will identify myself when I see you in town. You will be shocked. Take care and I am glad I can now speak to you without arguing.

Well, if I'm going to be that shocked, please brush up on the Heimlich maneuver before you spring yourself on me.
