Camden County sheriff's secretary indicted for credit card fraud.

http://www.jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-06-03/story/camden_county_sheriffs_assistant_indicted_for_credit_card_fraud Before you ask, yes, I've read the article and I agree with he logic behind Sheriff Gregory's decision. Of course, Thuggies will howl that he should fire her now, then face a lawsuit if she is subsequently acquitted of the charges. She is NOT a sworn officer, is NOT accused of any wrong doing in her present job, and has no access to a county credit card or control of or access to county funds. Case closed until the jury is in.

Are you kidding me? At least suspend her. This is a total lack of control over this department. Myself and many others are extremely disappointed in the Sheriff we elected. I assure you, I will not allow this to die down as the other problems have. Jay, you need to satand up to Tommy on this and not be weak. We need a storong and moral Sheriff that will not stand for this.

No.I'm not kidding you. I beleive, as I 've alrady stated, that the sheriff's actions in the matter are exactly correct and clearly are the actions that we be recommended by any consuting attorney with the brains God ghave a nanny goat. The woman stands accused - not convicted. Moreover, she is not accused of any misfeasnace in her job at the sheriffs office. Reportedly, she does that in a quite satisfactory manner. It is not a question of my standing up to anyone. Did I show a nano second of hesitance to stand up to Big Thug Willie? Don't question my cajones, Sir.

There is absolutely no indication of weakness or a lack of morality inthis case. In pint of fact, his actions indicate BOTH in spades.

What is the actual cause of your obvious personal, ad hominem problem with Sheriff Gregory?

Let's try that again:

This time Jay I'm gonna have to disagree with you. This person has access to personnel records which include personal data i.e. ssn etc.. Let's just go out on a limb here and just assume that she did the things she is accused of. Now I ask you would you want her having access to your ssn? In my humble opinion, she should be removed from any position where confidential information or cash is accessible.

Come on,now. I'm impressed by your creativity, but that is really a bit of a stretch. She does not have access to cash. There is no indication that she has abused her current office by making unauthorized use of people's SSN numbers - unlike a sitting county commissioner did.

But Gregory reasoning for keeping her was she would'nt be able to afford a defense attorney.

How is that the taxpayers of Camden County problem?

Yeah, if I were Tommy, I probably would not have siad that. Hwever, his other reasons for not firing her are perfectly valid, logical, legally defensible, and wholly adequate unto themselves.
