GTU coverage of Camden's FY-10 budget.

http://www.jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-06-02/story/camden_commissions_set_to_approve_bare-bones_budget "The decision not to raise taxes means cuts were made to every department, said David Rainer, commission chairman. 'I don't think I would have ever raised my hand for a tax increase with this economy,' Rainer said. 'I think it's a very bare-bones budget. Hopefully, essential services will not be negatively impacted.' " Oh, come on, St. David, et al, give us a break! The sheriff has already told y'all that he will be completely broke by late January or early February. He goes on to tell you in this article that on the money you are giving him, he will have to fire 34 more people just to get by. Isn't it true that in order to be able to say you held the line on a millage increase, y'all are just kicking the can down the road, knowing damned well that you will have to BORROW money - at interest - before the end of FY-10?

Why is it that when there is a crooked sherrif in office, he has an unlimited budget? But when there's an honest one in office, he has to run on less than a shoestring? What's wrong with the people in Camden County?

That is a very god question, and one that beats the Hell out of me, too.

If I were on the commission now, I would not only insist that the county administrator tell the commission how much the millage rate would have to be raised to cover the nut for all of FY-10 (which I'm confident he has done), but I would have revealed that needed millage rate increase to the public weeks ago in order to solicit public input on whether the majority of the taxpayers favored going ahead and raising the millage rate or borrowing the money when the cupboard runs bare in January or February.

I think that the assumption that the taxpayers will ALWAYS favor putting off the inevitable is wrong.

You're right someone should ask the taxpayers and I'm sure they will concur that the Sheriff should reduce employees from the top not bottom. He claims to be working on a bare bones budget but as soon as he was elected he elevated several peoples salaries. In particular look at B. Johnson his campaign manager.

For those of us who are not Thuggies or past or present CCSO employees below B. Johnson, who is B. Johnson, what does he do now, and what did he do before the election?

The county commission and the county fire department should be kicked in the head. They just purchased a monster tanker in excess of $500,000. This tanker will not go over bridges on the north end of the county. It probably will not go down some of the roads on the south end either. For what they paid for it they could have bought 2 or 3 tankers, and possibly an engine or two. Hell, the sheriff's office could have bought 20 or 30 new patrol vehicles. If you want to see this waste of tax payer money stop station 14 on North 17 just past harriett's bluff road. It will blow your mind.

B, Johnson was a warrant server, under BTW, he hauled his kids to school in the county patrol car, just like some of the fire dept personel does with there vechicles, he worked at the mill, BTW brought him back and made him a presto LT. he went with Tommy and he gave him Easterling's position as Col. Chief Dep.What he did before the election? Drawed a nice check on the taxpayers, and used county Gas like BTW's other idiots. He still is no bang for the bucks he is recieving. If you don't believe me, check around, you probally will get a big suprize.

Well, assuming he was Tommy's "campaign manager," as you claim (Tommy paid about 50 grand to a professional manager in Savanah, by the way), at least he is working for the money he earns as his "reward". Compare that to BTW's campaign manager. She got lieftime (she thought) free car repairs and inmate car washes and an illegal, $100,000 scholarship to VSU for her son.
