The bait stew thickens.

The RFP (Request for Proposals) said that the contract for operating the city owned bait stand at St. Marys waterfront park would be awarded at last night's city council meeting. It was not even on the agenda. There are, however, some very interesting new developments which may accommodate both a bait stand operator and the St. Marys Yacht Club. Let's review. First, I published the official final version of the bait stand RFP. Here is a link to it to refresh your memory. http://camdencommentary.blogspot.com/2009/08/final-version-of-bait-stand-vs-yacht.html Next, I published the St. Marys Yacht Club proposal, which was sent to me by a St. MYC member for publication before the date the bids were to be opened. Insofar as the "bid" did not actually contain a proposed rental price, no harm, no foul. Here is a link to that proposal. http://camdencommentary.blogspot.com/2009/09/st-marys-yacht-clubs-proposal-for-bait.html
Now, finally, above, you will find the proposal for an actual bait operation submitted by Tommy Weaver. As you will see, Tommy has some very good ideas and loads of experience. My guess is that if there is anyone in this county who can and will run a live bait operation on the waterfront well and profitably, Tommy Weaver is that man.
Alyce Thornhill, the director of the St. Marys Downtown Development Authority was supposed to meet with a DNR representative down at the waterfront today to discuss what view the DNR will take of Tommy's various proposed options as well as possibly the building of a new structure of some sort so that both fishermen and yachters may be accommodated in a way which will or should be satisfactory to both sides and, most importantly, the most likely to cost all the incumbents the fewest votes. Check back later to see if she has replied to my request for an early summary of what was discussed at that meeting.
Oh, and I can hardly wait for the ol' EarthKeeping, Green, eco-weenie herself to weigh in against the incarceration of innocent crustaceans on city property for inhumane purposes!

Tommy Weaver is the perfect person to make a go of the bait shop. He understands the regulations and will make the required improvements to make it a suitable location. I caution him to not work with any other entity.

I agree but I must say that I don't quite follow your warning in your last sentence.

Tommy knows shrimp and knows the river. He will make it work. I am glad to see that he will be there

I was referring to mixing his bait shop with the Yacht Club. It should be a business, not a social club.

Thanks for the clarification. By the way, that request to Alyce Thornhill for a synopsis of her meeting with the DNR rep yesterday should be forthcoming later today when city hall opens up. Rather surprisingly, she e-mailed me back yesterday saying that she had written it, but forwarded it to her "boss", Bill Shanahan, for review before I get it. That is rather curious for the director of an "authority." Surely, she knows that her autonomous authority is also subject to open records. I would have thought the more appropriate way to handle it wopuld have been to e-mail it immediately to me with a copy to Bill Shanahan. Maybe they don't get many FOIR's in her shop.
At any rate, I ran into Bill Delouhy coming out of Advance Rehab yesterday. I was there for a brace adjustment; he, for postrotator cuff surgery therapy. He confirmed that here is movement towards satisfying the ewants of botht the fishermen, with a bait shop, and the St.MYC with a small facility.

How could they do that? They asked for bids on a certain building. How could they tell one or the other its not that building thay put a bid on.If the building changes the bids could change also, right??
i would put my money the city is going to build the yacht club a meeting place. on the taxpayers money. If i was the bidder i would want what i put a bid in on.

Not saying he,cant make it work, because tommy will have <95% of the locals, they know him. getting back the out of county fishermen coming back will take a year or more.Hope that St. Marys knows that and not judge him in 60-90 days.
I work with DNR on alot of things as alot of us do.I think that they
(dnr)will back him 99.9% I know he will back them if need be.
