Friday qualifiers.
So far as I now, as of 2:30, the only additional qualifier is Christopher Bennett who has qualified for Post 5 in St. Marys. It would appear from Mr. Bennett's e-mail address that he is a home builder.
Probable final results from Kingsland:
Hi Jay –
As of 4PM today (qualifying ends at 4:30) Post #1 – Donald Mounsey, Matthew Pettus, Jr., R. Dale Collins.
Post #2 – Alex Blount, Norman E. Covert….
I will really be busy after 4:30 so I am updating you now…
Have a nice weekend.

tom cyphers for mayor
Louise Mitchel And CC Higginbotham are the only qualifiers. They win by default. That is all from Woodbine
Thanks for that info. They are both incumbents, right?
Only Louise. CC is a new guy with great ideas.
After watching you inform Cyphers of what he was reading, I don't know. But I hear he is'nt a Camden Partnership candidate so I guess thats a plus. L.J. Williams, how predictable Charlie.
No, just Louise.
Who decided not to run again for the seat Higgenbothem will win by default?
I believe that the night you refer to, Cyphers was reading a documnet that was actually researched by Roger Rillo. Rillo and his wife were sitting in the back row with an open copy. Every time Cyphers got into trouble, he would look back to Rillo for guidance.
Bill Miller.
BTW, LJ is tied to Bird.
Tom would be worse at running a meeting than Rowland, he doesn't have any leadership.
My point was his comprehension of what he was disgussing was to say the least, not on point. I want a more astute individual as Mayor.
I think I will vote for Eskridge as the lessor of the three evils.
Oh, I got your point - and I agree.
LJ seems to have a penchant for being what one might call an "ally of opportunity."
By the way, three of the movers and shakers in that Watch Dog / Tea Party movement were Rindy Howell, Tom Cyphers, and the Rillos. I said to myself at he time that there were likely some campaigns being run sub-rosa in that deal. The frezing out of Feller was another strong clue.
Watch for the Watch Dogs to disappear soon after the election.
L.J. Williams is what we refer to as a hankerchief head. He loves to be USED by anyone he feels has power. The smartest thing the voters of St. Marys did was to vote him out. I hope they don't make the mistake of re-electing him.
I also believe Sandy Feller is the lessor of the evils in his race. At least we know his stance, although we may have to decipher what he is actually trying to tell us. But he will indeed shine a light on any and all wrongdoing.
Feller is the original "Dr. NO."
While it is true that he performs the watchdog role well, can youy honestly conceive of any proposal to move St. Marys forward to which he would not reflexively say "no," regardless of the merits? To date, has he ever endorsed anything?
If elected, let's hope he does not find another Berry-like nemisis on city council to feud with.
I think that this says it all...
During a recent meeting, Gull Weaver said (and I quote), "St. Marys isn't a family destination - we need to market to the affluent."
So..."not a family destination". No taking advantage of the DNRs initiatives http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/news/article/23027/; no taking advantage of the natural gifts of our area - our unique position on this over-developed coast, Cumberland Island, Crooked River, St. Marys River, the deepest natural harbor on the east coast; no sensitively to the fact that it is our community spirit and the fact that it is families who make up the majority of our visitors; no awareness that it is our love of our natural beauty and history that forms the shape and nature of St. Marys.
Apparently Weaver would sell us all to the highest bidder: those who would destroy the very thing that makes us US. Every other town and community in Georgia is taking advantage of the rapidly-growing eco-tourism industry - and yet Weaver dismisses it and families.
"Market to the affluent", indeed.
I am not (by a long shot) "affluent" and I do not wish to have someone who panders to the rich and disinterested on Council. By her very words Gull Weaver insults our families, our businesses, our value, our home. I wasn't sure about Gull Weaver until I heard this (and, yes, I trust the source). Now I know that a I do not wish to live in a place that is prostituted to "the affluent market".
"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?"
To anyone other than the members of Sydney Howell's damned-outsider-hating, pro return-to-the-bad-old-days natural constituency, the statement attributed to Councilwoman Weaver - ""St. Marys isn't a family destination - we need to market to the affluent" - is so blatabtly obvious in its meaning that the context can be intuited woithout actually seeing the entire statement.
Obviously, she was talking about efforts to market the city to tourists on vacation. Clearly, whereas, say, Disneyland, Seaworld, Six Flags, etc, are all family destinations for middle income families wioth children, the "attractions" in St. Marys itself (as opposed to Cumberland Island) are NOT oriented towards middle class families. How many middle class vactioning familes are lookg for accommodations in a bed and breakfast? How many B&Bs go after that market? ZERO. How many of our rapidly dwindling numnber of downtown restaurants can attract even enough affluent customers to stay open, much less middle class families with kids?
If families come to see Cumberland Island, they willl either camp out or stay in the cheapest accommodations they can find up on the interstate, if they stay overnight locally at all.
In short, Councilwoman Weaver was absolutely correct. At least she did not repeat former Mayor Jerry Brandon's famous statement - deleived during a regular meeting: "I wish they (tourists and all damned outsiders) would just come, leave their money and go home" - a statment I know Sydney agrees with as do his natural supporters.
So now you know, folks, I'll publish your attacks, but I WILL call bullshit on them when necessary. Keep 'em coming.
