Oh, brother! This should prove interesting - to put it mildly.

Jill, my friend, I suspect that you and Alan have plunged into even darker, deeper, hotter waters than you have estimated. Good luck!
And while I'm at it, let me say that I've already had to delete one comment about a declared candidate's personal financial situation. A, there was no substantiation of the claim, and B, if it is not called for on the state's disclosure form, I'm not interested. I'm also not interested in the candidate's marital status, sexual preference, political party (until we go national), religious beliefs or affilaitions, or where he/she is originally from and how long they have lived in Camden County. If you want your comment on a candidate published on this blog, please omit all of that. None of that is germane to their rleative qualification for the office vis-a-vis the other candidates.

If the "letters to the editor" are anything like the majority of the comments on TOPIX and certain blogs, Jill will spend all of her time reading the diatribes of ill-informed and immature idiots who seek only to insult others, rumor-monger and debase "conversation". By the time she removes all of the unfounded slurs, epithets and grudge-generated flotsam, she'll be left with "Dear Editor...Sincerely, Local Twit".
Jay,
I agree, this could get real ugly. They will have to hand pick letters or there will be a wave of the issues you mentioned. And if they start to hand pick them, they will have the ability shape the election landscape. That is a very fine line to cross. I do not see how they can do it.

i can tell you're a long-tije TOPIX reader. It's sort of like trying to pass a wreck and not look, ain't it? :-)
I know from personal experience that Jill will call to point out that one's choice of words may be a tad to frank for the Bible belt. That will be child's palce compared to the Solomonic wisdom that will be required here.
