BTW's election day taxi service.

A new (so far as I know) mole has just sent me this: Those of you who read the original of this post earlier today may recall that I published a slightly redacted version of the actual e-mail from my informant. The information was that Atlantic Auto Brokers had supplied the Smith campaign with a small fleet of cars to be used to transport Smith voters to the polls. There was some suspicion that the drivers may have been CCSO employees on the clock. Even though I was careful to omit anything which might be identifying, the mole has asked me to remove the redacted original language out of fear of Big THug somehow figuring out who they are anyway. I have complied. As someone said ealier, January can not get here soon enough.

BTW has always people driven to the polls, and I'm sure some of the drivers got their wages for their services.

I can personally attest to this fact. I was working the Gregory precinct at Harriet’s Bluff. Our former Sheriff, one BTW drove up in a Toyota Camrey I think it was. Gold or Metallic Green in color. He stayed in the car, and addressed his Thugs who were 200 ft. northwest of us on the fork in the road. He sat there for a few minutes and left. When he left there was a big old Atlantic Auto Tag on both the front and back of the car. He did not get out and wave to supporters, just checked in with the thugs, some of them I recognized, others I did not. Tommy however showed up at about 6:30 with his lovely wife Jodi, and got out of his car and worked the roadway until the polls closed. Tommy worked all 14 precincts that day. That may be why he won Harriett’s Bluff, the Big Thugs Backyard. I saw Adam Jacobson, son of the owner of Atlantic Auto’s drive by on his way home from work. You may remember that name. He has written a few letters to the editor in the T&G praising BTW in his time of need. I was wondering about the Crown Vic, his ride of choice. Guess he was working undercover that day.

I normally do not comment on these blogs, but since my name was brought up I will say a few words to clear up any confusion. Hopefully it will get published as it’s my understanding that all blogs must first be approved by the moderator. First and foremost you’ll see that I used my actual name as opposed to “anonymous”. I think if you have something you’d like to share with the people who read this blog, then you should at least get the facts straight.

To address the comment about the sheriff’s department using a “fleet” of our vehicles to shuttle people around I’d just like to say they were the only ones that asked to borrow vehicles. By the way, the “fleet” was two Honda Accords. Had Mr. Gregory asked, or anyone else running for election, I would have been happy to oblige with letting them use vehicles also. I respect anyone that runs for public office and that certainly includes Mr. Gregory. I commend him and his wife on their hard work as it obviously paid off.

Now as far as me driving a Crown Vic around the bluff doing undercover work, PLEASE! I don’t care if people are talking about me just so long as it’s half way the truth. If anyone saw me driving home that Tuesday night it was in a black Tahoe with a red dealer plate. Next time you see me you should wave.

Guys I have no problem with any of you posting blogs expressing your opinion, however I’d appreciate a some verification of facts before any posts that include myself, my family or my dealership. We do a lot in this community with the school, the police departments, and yes, the sheriff’s department. Hopefully we can still be of some assistance with the new sheriff and if not, then I’d hate to think it’s because of rumors and conspiracies.

Oh! I almost forgot the comment about the letters to the editor. While I have written a letter about the sheriff to the newspaper, I have also written letters concerning Jack Kingston and the recent economic stimulus package. I am very excited that someone remembers what I have written about as it’s a sign that it must have made an impression!

I think it’s about time we all get past the mudslinging and accusations and try to get our county united again. This past election was extremely stressful and traumatic for a lot of people. We need to repair our image as a community and all of these negative blogs only further the damage. I hope this gets published and I hope that this has provided some much needed facts to this post.

Okay, how about "mini-fleet?"

Just curious: did the Smith camp have to call and ask for vehicles, or did you folks actively volunteer them? If so, did you make the same offer to the Gregory camp, in spite of your letters-to-the-editor in glowing praise of the sheriff?

Aren't you really just engaging in a little post-election loss, public relations butt covering here?

You're free to support whomever you like -just as my readers and I are free to make note of it.

As to this being a negative blog, I would say only as regards coverage of Bill Smith's activities of the last few years. How could one possibly report on those accurately and not be "negative?"

I've actually only written one letter to the Trib in regards to the sheriff if my memory serves me. Like I said earlier, I must have made quite an impression.

We were asked to use the two cars in efforts to shuttle people to the early voting and on the day of the election. I can't help that no one else asked to borrow vehicles from us, but like I said, I would have been happy to let any of the candidates use them.

I certainly am not trying to cover my butt, but merely wanted to clear the air about the post. The only reason I made that post is that I don’t really like lies and rumors. I’ve not heard any other comments that were derogatory about my family or my business on any other local blogs. It would be pointless to argue in a place in which all the comments have to be approved and technically I’m not here to argue. I just wanted to make sure that if you are going to post comments of speculation, that you would be willing to post the true statements as well.

Like I said earlier on, I respect all the people that ran of office and congratulate all that won as well. No matter if it is Bill Smith, Tommy Gregory, or Rich Gamble that’s sheriff, we’d still like to work the Sheriff’s Department as much as possible. Again I will remind you that we also assist St. Marys Police Dept. and the school system (the car give-a-way, billboard sponsors, etc.). If it’s the moderators aim to punish all that helped the sheriff’s campaign, then I can tell you the economy is tough enough and I doubt you could make it much tougher. Hopefully that’s not what you are encouraging and I will assume it’s not.

What I was referring to with the negative blog statement was that it's time to move on. I assume that most everyone that posts on your blog was pro-Gregory and he ran a hell of a campaign. So now that you guys have achieved what your goal was, why not focus on what direction the county should be moving towards. I think that you could do more good than harm from here on out if you shifted your focus off the sheriff and on to the other issues we as a community face.

So, actually your vehicles were invovled in an effrot to elect a man, whom you clearly supported, and whom any intelligent, decent, mroal and ethical voter would have known did not deserve re-election and may in fact deserve a long term in federal prison, for not just one day - but six. Thank you. I was not aware of that.

You wrote "If it’s the moderators aim to punish all that helped the sheriff’s campaign, then I can tell you the economy is tough enough and I doubt you could make it much tougher. Hopefully that’s not what you are encouraging and I will assume it’s not."

I don't encourage political boycotts - just like I don't give preference to people who assure me that they are more religious than all of their competitors. However, if given the incredible amount of documented evidence of Bill Smith's "general sorriness" (as shorthand for the mile long litany of his transgressions)and it's ready availability, if people want to form their own personal opinions as to what inflections may be made as to the character of his fervent supporters, I can hardly blame them. Moreover, I can certainly empathize with them.

P.S.,

You will insist, I'm sure, that the fair market rental value of two cars for six days be included on Bill Smith's final campaign contribution report as an "in kind contribution" in the name of your dealership. As you no doubt know, the value way exceeds the $101.00 threshold for reporting. I would hate to see you not get the credit you so richly deserve when I publish that one.

My response was not in reference to anything other than my name and my dealership. If there are charges pending against Sheriff Smith, I am unaware of them. I’m certainly not in the loop like a lot of other people. I am just a businessman who was asked for a favor, a favor that I would have done for any of the candidates. You may twist my words to appear that I am defending the sheriff, but the truth is I am only defending falsehoods against me and my business. I’d ask in the future that if there are anymore “anonymous” posts pertaining to anything having to do with me or my business, that you’d have the courtesy to contact me prior to posting. There are always two sides to every story.

Mr.Jacobson, there is only one publisher and one editor of this blog:me. I don't do pre-publication submissions for approval.

You are welcome to keep right on commenting, if you feel you must.

I guess it should come as no surprise that as a businessman, if you did not have better sense than to overtly and flagrantly back a scumbag like Smith, you would also not have the good sense to shut up about it at the earliest opportunity and let the public start to forget. But hey, you are the master of your own damage control amd marketing.

Hey Jay,

Let's plan a trip to Atlantic City. I will go by and get a "loaner" from Atlantic Auto and then go by Cisco's and get a credit card.
Ain't it just peachy to have folks like these that look out for you.

Let up guys. In this country you have the right to line up with any crooked politican you care too. If they do you a favor to hell with what ever else he does. It is the new morality. Don't fault some one for being involved with what use to be the "shady folks." It doesn't matter any more. Just so long they are your crook. It just so happens that a bunch of cars were loaned to our soon to be indicted Sheriff. Don't make a big deal out of. You have a right to be as involved as you want to with a crooked politican. Also, don't be hard on the fellow because he has missed the news reports of a federal and state investigation. Reports of illegal activity with inmates, misuse of federal funds, and admissions to what are violations of oath of office. The guys have a business to run. They just missed a few things. They probably are just now catching up on Smith's law problems, etc. They probably just use the paper to put in those weekly adds and don't read any thing else. May be just the letter supporting Smith. They probably read that and ignore the front pages of the papers, NPR, etc. Can't we all just get along?

I wonder if this small fleet of cars shuttled only low income blacks to the polls who were sure to cast a vote for Bill Smith. How nice of the Sheriff to provide such a service to the voters of Camden County. Where was he when I needed a ride? I wonder if he would have shuttled me to the polls to vote for Tommy Gregory?

Jay Moreno said...

I don't know, but come November, I'll be sure to remind all candidates to reserve their loaner cars early from the good folks at Atlantic Auto Brokers.

I cant believe Adam says he is not aware of any charges against the Sheriff. Adam can't be that stupid. I am sure he reads the newspapers. Since he writes letters in them. Atlantic Auto supports a crook and they got caught. The poor guy is dumb enough to bring it back up. Hey Adam I never noticed any of those posts before but now I have. Everyone knows that you support an immoral crook. Stop trying to defend yourself you got caught.

Mr. Jacobson,

I was not implying you were working undercover; I was talking about Bill Smith’s usual mode of transportation. a Crown Vic. I can not reveal my identity, as I am a county worker, who could lose my job, “In these tough economic times”, due to a certain Sheriff. I was no way trying to insult your business, but just confirming the post ahead of mine. By the way, I could use a Jaguar this weekend to impress a girl I am dating. Any chance you have one on loaner??

Atlantic Auto Brokers loaned a car to my family the daughter of one of our friends to Atlanta. She had cancer and her wish before she died was to go to a nascar race. They didn't ask any questions, just let them use their car. It even had gas in it. I will never forget how much fun she had. They lost her not long after that trip. Those folks do a lot of good in this community.
