What a Bird!

You're not going to believe this. Oh, on second thought, it's news from St. Marys City Council, so you probably will. At last night's city council meeting, swashbuckling Councilman Airrole Flymflam Bird got his buddy, Councilman Larry Johnson, to make a motion that the City of St. Marys taxpayers re-imburse Councilman Bird for his legal fees that he had to pay attorney Jim Stein to get him out of rightful charges of conflict-of-interest for voting on matters effecting his business at the airport. The motion died for lack of a second. Hell, I'm surprised Bird didn't argue that there would have been no problem with him seconding the motion. After the council was buffaloed by Stein out of the censure Bird so richly deserved, he then went on to speak and vote on matters concerning his other business (and apparent other reason for running), the golf cart sales and rental operation. This Bird should have been a no termer, but certainly a one-termer.

You surely can see Byrd is ALL FOR HIMSELF and not the taxpayers. St. Marys needs to get rid of him.

I agree. For the record, though, he spells his last name "BIRD."

He probably needs to go, but I do agree with him on one thing. Leave the damn airport where it is! Stop for a minute and think, the mill is gone, ferry service to Cumberland Island from Fernandina could start in the future, and now take the airport to Billyville. Bye, Bye downtown St. Marys! It will look worse than downtown Woodbine. That sorry excuse for a July 4th festival will not save the sinking ship either. How can Woodbine & Kingsland ( Crawfish & Catfish festivals respectively) provide name brand entertainment while good ole St. Marys just posts sign-up sheets in the Tribune the week before! Oh well, maybe the new elementary school will save the downtown area, I mean those teachers surely will go to the water front every day for coffee, sweets and hash from Trolleys. Sorry Jay, lost my head there and had to vent a little.
