Ain't that the truth!

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/kingsland-ga/T1DJON8NVC7D6U3AB I was just telling someone the other day that if the thing were on the property of a private citizen without the benefit of sovereign immunity, he would have been sued long ago for maintaining what the plaintiff's lawyer would call "an attractive nuisance." Addendum @ 0907 HRS on 7/29: As I was saying.... http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/072908/geo_310636833.shtml

People have been swimming at that lake for years with no ill effect. Myself included. You go into the water understanding the risks. I for one am sad that I will likely no longer be able to enjoy the park as I once did because of other people who are apparently unable for being responsible for their own safety.

Could you differentiate for me between the rationales for the generally accepted practice of providing life guards at public oceanic beaches and not providing them at a public, fresh water lake where swimming is permitted?

In this case the county would have to pay for them. They cannot as they are broke. To much financial mismanagement. The commissioners will shut it down before they spend any money on life guards. Any other county would see that place as an asset, and do what it takes to save lives. Unfortunately, I believe it will be shut down if to many more people drown.

Yes, The theory that you NEED to have said life guards in order to operate the park. You do not.

People should take personal responsibility and know their limits.

Thousands of people use that lake every month. We've had 3 drownings in the space of 3 months. Tragic yes, but akin to screaming that we need to stop flying airplanes, or mandate that the planes can't fly higher than 100 feet off the ground, because one went down with 100 people on it.

By the way, Thank you for not removing my post like I asked. I had intended to remain anonymous and not post under my Google handle. Guess I'll just have to make darn sure I hit the right button next time.
