Who is "Bill Jones, III" and why is he supporting Bill Smith?

First, let's familiarize you with Bill Jones, III. http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Features/CA_Golf_Detail/0,4475,70,00.html Now, how do we know he is lending some of his billionaire wealth to support Bill Smith in the race for sheriff? http://www.sheriffbillsmith.com/events.cfm Note that the fund raiser sponsored by Mr. Jones is by invitation only. Now, you may well ask, how can the sheriff help Mr. Jones' real estate interests - most notably getting the St. Marys Airport relocated to the property his company, Sea Island Company, has donated so that the taxpayers may build him an airport around which he will build an exclusive "fly -in" community of the ultra rich. Well, perhaps the sheriff can not, directly, but if the sheriff installs one more puppet - Carla Carper - on the commission, he most certainly can pull the strings to grease the skids for Mr. Jones. Can there be any doubt that if Smith is reelected, the frozen Cisco credit card in his wallet will be replaced by a Jones credit card with a much, much higher limit? How about it, voters? Will you cast your vote to authorize Bill Smith to put Camden County governance up for sale to the highest bidder? Addendum, 7/03 @1042 HRS. For those of you wishing to express your appreciation of Mr. Jones using his immense wealth to purchase political influence in Camden County through funding of the likes of Bill Smith, you may write to him at : Bill Jones, III Sea Island Company P.O. Box 30351 Sea Island, GA 31561 Attaching a photocopy of your generous check payable to the Gregory campaign would be a nice touch.

It is the same pattern of greed that has infected our county. As if the Jone's Company does not have enough. They have to enlist and support the likes of Smith because they have their way in Glynn County but don't have it in Camden, yet. You would think that if the Company is all it should be they would not support the likes of Smith with all the document admissions by Smith and others about his misfeasance and malfeasance and the many violations of his oath of office. That company and Jones have sure removed any doubt about their integrity. Remember this. They sure as hell are not residents of Camden County, but do own a big chunk.

Just had to comment, after looking at the list of Bill's events and wondering, gee, there sure are a lot of basically "white" churches he is not speaking at. Why is that? And, gee, he's not even speaking at Mary Ann (am I or am I not a Bill Smith campaign coordinator) Seman's church.

Ah, yes - the girlfriend! The perfect, untraceable conduit for cash "incentives" to the sheriff and thence to the commissioners.

Perdue appoints replacement for disgraced Homerville judge, criticizes bar and judiciary

The Times-Union

Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Adel attorney Howard McClaine today to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Brooks Blitch, chief Superior Court judge of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit. The Alapaha Circuit includes the counties of Atkinson, Berrien, Clinch, Cook and Lanier.
“The residents of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit have suffered, knowingly and unknowingly, through what appears to have been gross abuses of judicial power,” Perdue said in a prepared release.

Perdue went on to say he was troubled by the many federal indictments and other allegations coming out of the circuit and that it took investigations by the Judicial Qualifications Commission and the FBI to expose the allegations of wrongdoing.

“Judges wield awesome power. Consequently, it is understandable that some may fear reprisal and retaliation for standing up to members of the bench. Times like these, however, highlight the duty of members of the bar and, perhaps more appropriately the judiciary, to demand that their peers on either side of the bench never betray the public’s trust,” Perdue said.

Perdue said he believes McClaine’s appointment is a step in the right direction for the circuit in that he has the trust of the community and the integrity to change the culture.

“I am proud to appoint him as Superior Court Judge, and I trust that he will exercise the judicial integrity the community deserves,” Perdue said.

McClaine, 63, of Adel serves as the attorney for the Cook County Board of Education, city of Adel and the Cook County Economic Development Commission. He serves as Municipal Court Judge for Alapaha, Ray City, Enigma and Sycamore.

He served on the Valdosta Technical College Board of Directors and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Cook County Educational Foundation.

He and his wife Carolyn have three children.

Jay,
Don’t try to equate BTW with the airport move; he is not involved and has never been involved with the community and business leaders of Camden who are spearheading this effort. The folks who are involved would wince; they would leave the room if he came in. Since 2004 there has been a group of folks from Camden, kingsland, saint marys and woodbine that have pursued the relocation in earnest. Some of those folks, no longer hold an elected office but remain involved because it is the right thing to do. Sea Island only comes into the picture because they own land they are willing to donate to the city which in turn the city uses the land donation as part of the costs of the move. Sea Island gets a tax write-off and the city/airport authority get land for free (no tax dollar is spent). The city or some form of a new airport authority involving the county and three cities would “own” the airport, not Bill Jones. He and his cronies might benefit from it just as people living in Woodbine would benefit from it. However, I seriously doubt it would since the blue blood visitors who go to Sea Island either land on Saint Simons of Brunswick. Why land 30 miles away when you can land much closer? Don’t forget the base also supports the move. Why would the leadership there want to be involved with underhanded dealings with the likes of BTW? The base would not touch the man. The base wants the airport moved for safety: Plain and simple. Two airplane crashes 12 months apart – one on Douglas Drive with the jump Camden owner and one right at Franklin Gate on Spur 40.

Bill Jones III owns Sea Island and owned the LLC Company that was wanting to buy up Woodbine a year or so ago. They were wanting to make it into a fishing village and change the name of the town, I believe they did buy some of the land to build condo's at the board walk, but unsure if that is a fact or not. Now Bill Smith has a nephew, ?? Scott Henning ( I think his name is Scott), on the city council. A sure way to sway council votes. LOOK OUT WOODBINE!

Right, Walt: Bill Jones III is a pure philanthropist with no ulterior motives in having a new, tax-payer funded airport in the north pasrk of the county where he owns tens of thosuands of acres and is already developing many of them. Thanks for straightening me out on that.

Yea. A rich land developer who is developing the north end of Camden County who does not reside here has a fund raiser for Smith because he likes him. As soon as a goose flys out my a$$ I will buy that load of crap. Jones is for Jones. That is what he does. He makes money for Jones, not Smith. Sell that crap to some one with out a brain. It stinks, we smell it and you can't cover it up. Nice try Camden Partnership and Jones croonies. All sell out. It is now a proven fact. Jones is for Jones. He needs to keep his money grubing ass on Sea Island.

Jay,
Not Walt - just Any Mouse. If BTW was involved in the airport location it would have to be the biggest and best executed conspiracy in Camden County. Think about it; It would involve three commanding officers of the base, the mayors of all three cities, a majority of the councilmen from 2004 to present (don't remember any commissioner ever being involved), the Chamber of Commerce, JDA (okay maybe I'll believe it), Congressman Jack Kingston, Members of the Navy League. The relocation was already in motion well before Sea Island ever made their proposal - the original site looked at was off 40W going toward Browntown. I don't think Billyville Road is considered the north part of the county, it's exactly in the center. Regardless the land donation will do two things: tax write-off for the Sea Island and no cost to the taxpayer in purchasing the land - isn't that what the referendum is all about - no cost to the taxpayer?
Any Mouse

Well, I thought that I made it fairly clear in my original post why Jones would want to buy Smith in hopes of buying the county commission via Smith when Smith gained control of it - not to mention city councilmen if a victorious Smith can install enough of those in his quest to be the Kingfish Huey Long or Boss Tweed of Camden County - but apparently not. Go back and read it again. Let me know if you still don't get it. I'll try again.

Jones is a greedhead, born to riches, bidnessman who wouldn't piss on any of us po' crackers if we were on fire, BTW included. He has had his bought and paid for boys in D.C. put the squeeze on the wannabees to shut the airport down and move it to his playground. Don't forget that Mike McKinnon said two years ago that the Navy wasn't concerned about the airport any longer. Why the sudden change of heart? Could it be that our new favorite son named Bill asked Jack Kingston for the keys?

Jay, I heard something that maybe you can check out with your Mole and see if he can confirm or deny. It seems at this particular fund raiser held at Cabin Bluff, which as I understand it is owned by Sea Island, the Sheriff and Mr. Jones got into a heated discussion over something that resulted in Mr. Jones leaving the fund raiser early. Upon everyone exiting the driveway of Cabin Bluff an astute observer noted that the "Elect Bill Smith Sheriff" signs which has been in place on the way into Cabin Bluff earlier in the evening, had been removed and replaced with "Vote for Tommy Gregory" signs. Thought you might be interested.
