Infamous CCSO DARE "Viper" for sale.

http://www.jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-07-08/story/camdens_costly_dare_car_back_on_showroom_floor Let's see what kind of accusations of impropriety "Jimmy" and the other TOPIX cretins hurl at Sheriff Gregory over this.

Great to see we do not care about drug education anymore! I can certainly see letting the car go, but to abandon the DARE program is about as crazy as believing anything Berry says!

180 degrees from reality. DARE has always been a documented ineffecftive program, a money maker for its franchisors, and a political PR tool for elected sheriffs and school boards. Good riddance.

FYI Tommy's brother David was over the DARE program when the Viper was purchased. It was David's idea to buy this car. He sold the idea to Sheriff Smith. As I recall the year the Viper won the competition in Las Vegas, Deputy David Gregory won officer of the year. Also, big brother Tommy(current Sheriff) was the purchasing agent when the Viper was ordered and paid for, not to mention all of the additional items purchased for it. If he thought it was such a waste of money (like he is quoted in the paper) why didn't he talk his little brother out of it then? I can't stand BTW and am not trying to justify his wasteful spending. I just want you to be aware of the fact Tommy is not the person you think he is. Tommy won the election because people were sick of Bill Smith and his ways. Tommy was there only other option.

Well, if ever there were conclusive proof that "Tommy is not the person (I) think he is," your shocking expose' is certainly it. If only you had revealed this before the election, BTW would still be sheriff.

Nope the dare car was bought with drug money, which was a perfectly legal purchase. Maybe one that was not needed, but legal. Gregory had nothing to do with the drug fund, that was all Smith.

Yes he did have plenty to do with the purchasing and spending of money both county and siezed drug funds, he just was not the one signing the checks, pull the requests for money and ask who marched them across the street to the Commissioners. Why do you think Tommy was fired almost six years ago, he paid for schooling for his brother David after he was told by BTW not to use anymore funds at the time for college tuition. The deal about the car purchase is dead on the money, and David Gregory was promised by BTW if he won Nationals he would be promoted to Captain just like big brother Tommy and that too happened. Jay you seem pretty smart sometime just research all the facts. As far as DARE goes I'd rather pay for it than Drug Court which does not work either. Nobodys gona tell anything when the main goal was to remove big willie.

Seriously, DARE is a scam. There have been numerous studies and documentaries. Google it.

I say:
If Tommy didn't sign the checks, then how did Tommy pay for the schooling?

And if YOU look at the audit reports Smith paid for schooling long after Gregory left.

As far as the Dare program it is worthless since it started in 1984 drug use among tennagers has doubled and continues to rise. And yes drug court is a waste of time as well.

A few things need to be clarified here. I am Sheriff Gregory;s brother David. I used to be employed with the CCSO and proudly served for many years in the cspacity of the DARE Officer.

First, the Viper was purchased with confiscated drug funds and not from the general fund. The idea to purchase this car was not mine, but a suggestion by the former Sheriff when it came time to purchase a new ROAD Runner. Historically, the ROAD Runner car had always been a Trans Am, but the Trans Am was disconitued and no longer being produced. The purchase of the Viper was not done on the sly, it was approved by the Justice Department to be used as part of project ROAD Runner. (Project Roadrunner was inplace for more than 20 years.) At the time this Viper was purchased Sheriff Gregory, then Captain Gregory was not in charge of seized drug fund purchases - this was the duty of the former Sheriff's executive secretary. Sheriff Gregory at that time was the Chief Financial Officer, but did not oversee the seized drug funds. Besides, any purchase or fund request initiated by me was specifically handled by the former Sheriff's executive secretary so as to not cause a conflict of interest that many of you suggest. Sheriff Gregory made it a purposefull point to not handle my requests. Also, many of these additions to the Viper some suggest were donoted - not all, but most.

Secondly, I was not promoted to Captain because I was named Georgia's DARE Officer of the Year. This was done on my own merits and the senior Lieutenant at the time of promotion, It is ludicrous that such assertions were made to suggest otherwise. This promotion took place before goinf to "Nationals" as "Anonymous" suggested. Does "Anonymous forget how many years I worked for the Sheriff's Office?

Third, the speculation of Sheriff Gregory being disciplined for paying for my schooling is false. My schooling at the time was paid for out of seized drug funds as everyones elses who chose to educate themselves under the program the former Sheriff put in place. This program was approved by the Justice Department too by the way. When the Sheriff cut the education program off, those that were in their last sessions prior to gradutating, the remainder of the classes were paid for by the County upon approval of the former Sheriff himself.

I post this to clarify the false and crazy assertions flying around in these postings, not to defend my brother for the sake of doing so. Not to mention, some have felt compelled to mention me. Sheriff Gregory is well respected in the law enforcement community and I support him in his endeavors as Sheriff. He is one of the most professional and careful law enforcement executives I know. Call it bias, call it what you will, but know this - I have been called a lot of things in my life, but never a liar. Maybe "anonymous" has some sort of political agenda here.

Thanks. Just my two cents.

David Gregory
Brother of Sheriff Tommy Gregory and former Captain, CCSO
